Does anyone ride rigid and SS on here?

Looking at a ride like the Kona Unit. I’m in Florida so nothing to crazy. I’ve been riding SS on road and gravel for a while now but thinking of getting something for real MTB trails. I was all set on a Kona Honzo and still might go that route but my LBS showed me this Kona Unit X and I’m intrigued.

I bought a kona unit a year and a half ago. Mainly like you because I was intrigued. I haven’t gone all crazy and taken it on any of the nearly trails I ride because that would just be insane lol. I have taken it on some very easy single track though......very easy. I’ve sunk a little money into it. I really just use it as a neighborhood cruiser now or for when the fiancé and I go for a bike ride. I’ve actually been thinking of selling it......

Yea I was thinking if I did go the Kona Unit route and wasn’t feeling it for MTB I could just build it up as a Gravel/Touring type bike. I wish I could rent one and really see what it’s like on a trail. Most the trails here are pretty flat but there are roots and some drops but nothing crazy.

If you were anywhere near Florida I’d probably buy it from you. My LBS has a 2018 Unit X he’s selling for $950. The Honzo AL/DL is $1,399. I’m sure I’d be more happy with the Honzo I’m just getting stuck up on this SS Rigid thing thinking it would make some normal boring Florida trails fun.

Shipping a bike isn’t that expensive from I’ve been told. I did sell a frame and fork and a few other parts and shipped it in a box I got from my lbs. I shipped it using bike flights.com. It wasn’t that bad at all. The previous owner of my unit switched out the the rigid fork for a rock shock Reba.

I just started drinking these. Mix one of these into a bottle of water. I drink one before I ride. It’s the equivalent to 3 bottles of water. Got it at the grocery store. image.jpgimage.jpg

When I was in the service doc would carry these with him in his kit. I'd imagine its made of the same or similar stuff.

    https://www.fitlivingbars.com/collections/fit-living-protein-bars

I eat one of these before every ride. Best protein bar I’ve ever had. 2 issues though 1) they’re aren’t cheap and 2) They have to be refrigerated. But I’ve never had a better tasting bar. Made to order, no preservatives, low sugar & high protein.

He had a little side action going on with them for Monday morning formations for the guys that were party animals. 2 for 10 or something like that. Those guys swore by it when they were still hungover. I only had two one time because I was working around a ridiculously hot machine, sweating my head off and water wasn't getting me back on my bubble. I started feeling allot better in less than a half hour.

Ordered a 6 pack from Amazon to try it out. I did get a little dehydrated today. Forgot how much hotter it gets riding in the trees and creek beds as compared to riding the paved trail with a good breeze

Tuesday when I rode it was rather warm. I normally really feel it afterwards. Dehydrated that is....drinking this before really did help. I didn’t feel nearly as worn out as I normally do. I now carry a couple with me in my work bag to take to work for when we catch a fire. After wearing all my gear and working I normally need a few bottles of water to feel better........this should cut that in half

I rode the Florida trails for a few years while I was finishing school there. I rode Caloosahachee, Alafya and Mecham a fair amount. I think a single speed would be fine. There really isn’t much climbing in Florida. I rode a rigid for a bit and ended up putting a suspension fork on it. I would get something that has front suspension for sure. The honzo is a great bike.

Got my 1-Up rack installed and my 2014 Stumpy tuned up and ready to go. Now if it would just stop raining in Northern Virginia...and if my boss would stop sending me on the road...I could actually get to take a ride every now and again. Haha.

    None... sigh
Writing this post knowing the risk since I have no pictures to go with it. I was given a GT Karakoram by a friend who wasn't going to be riding anymore, and I honestly just use it to ride the neighborhood with my son. I would like to do more but no time right now. On to my question, I was attempting to shift gears, to get on to the largest sprocket and it just wouldn't. When it first happened, the pedals got stuck so I had to shift back down. Is this something that I, not know much at all about bikes, could fix or do I need to take it to a shop? Any insights into the cause of the problem would be appreciated.
