09 Tacoma 4.0. When cold starts fine and runs for about 5-10 min. then dies. When trying to restart it runs for couple seconds then dies. It throws 6 codes for all cylinders misfiring. Clear the codes, start it runs for 2 seconds, dies and throws 6 different codes for each cylinder misfiring. Wait for an hour, it starts up plenty of power the dies after 5 to 10 minutes. I changed fuel pump thinking was a fuel issue. no difference. Any thoughts?

I don't suppose you have pulled the sparkplugs and coils to take a gander?

That being said with all 6 acting up it would seem like either a fuel or timing issue to me.

You're going to need some tools like a spark tester, fuel pressure gauge and a pocket scan tool that will show basic data

Is it setting P030x codes or P035x codes?

Codes are 0351,0352,0353,0354,0355, 0356. the truck is 09, but only has 60,000 mi on it. I didn't look at plugs yet. The darn thing runs so good when cold. goes right to 50 mph with no hesitation or miss. I will look at plugs, but I'm thinking maybe crank position sensor?

    Those are IGF codes.
What that means is the ECU is not getting confirmation that ignition has taken place.

We (me and another member) have been here before.
Let me see if I can find the thread. It would be beneficial for you to read it.

According to the owner (my wife's grandfather) everything is stock. Has never done anything to truck besides oil changes and filters. it doesn't have an inline fuel filter(only in tank). Can a bad coil cause all coils to fail?⁷

    Possibly, but not likely.
If a coil is shorting out the IGF wire, yes.
But I doubt that’s the issue.

You are going to need a voltage meter and/or test light.

    Ahh….that is going to suck.
    Toyota coils are pretty robust.
Eventually I would have gotten to that point.
But I would have definitely checked all the wire integrity first.
Like you said, the worst part will be “when it’s acting up”.
What might be hard is, checking them ALL before the truck cools down.

the air box is in the way, so you need to have the tools ready and act fast.

Well having circuit codes for all 6 coils at the same time and a start/stall is the exact symptom of the IGF circuit being shorted, since it seems to be temperature dependent the most logical thing is a coil getting hot and shorting out.
Not too bad to have a meter on the IGF circuit and unplug coils till the 5v comes back.

Most of my experience with overheating coils is on lawn equipment.
That’s why it’s good to have guys like you around.
To teach guys like me the “short cuts” to figuring it out.
I would have eventually found the bad coil. But it would have taken me about 6 times.
One truck cycle for each cylinder. And a lot of frustration.

I've worked on a lot of different Toyotas and of course, as you all know, it can be a hassle finding a good place to connect fuel pressure tester. What is your favorite spot to connect pressure tester on this 09 4.0? I've ran across situations where lack of fuel can cause misfire codes to come up. although I must admit never had all cylinders show a code. I will be checking the wiring next. Thanks TnShooter for link to troubleshooting steps.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
The spark plugs are original? How old is the battery?

If the IGF circuit is shorted it will set codes for all 6 coils and be a start/stall because the PCM disables fuel injectors on any cylinder that sets a coil circuit code so if they all set codes all injectors are disabled.
