I am getting my stock struts and shocks replaced next week. No change in ride height just going from the stock SR stocks to some Bilsteins off a higher line Taco. Do I need to get an alignment my one friend says yes another says no?

    Thanks

I didn't bother having mine checked/done after I did the same thing.
I did the work myself, so I was careful not to mess with anything that might throw it off.
The truck didn't exhibit any signs of the alignment being off when the swap was complete.

It's been 30K miles since the swap and the tires look perfect, although I rotate them every 5K miles.

I'd save your money, unless the truck pulls to one direction, or you notice abnormal tire wear after 5K miles.

Technically, no. But it would be a good idea to get it on the machine to determine if you need an alignment or not.

I have been doing front end work on cars and trucks for 40 yrs. Here is the rule, ANYTIME you replace or remove any front end part, it is always a good idea to ck the alignment.. The smallest change in riding height will effect the toe and camber. After replacing springs [NOT THAT YOU ARE,] I tell my customers to drive it for a few days and return to do the alignment. That way everything gets settled in..

If you manipulate or take anything apart on your front suspension always get an alignment. A $60-$100 alignment is way cheaper than $400 or more worth of tires you could potentially be ruining. My 2 cents. I’ve always got an alignment no matter what after suspension work.

Thank you much. An alignment cost me $65; so the $60-100 alignment point vs the chance of improper wear on the new tires that I will be also be putting on, is valid. So I will give it about a week to settle on the new struts and shocks and get an alignment done.

I put 5100's all the way around on my taco. No height change on the front. Ran it about 600 miles and started wearing the outside of the front tires. Took it in for alignment and the toe was off. The alignment fixed the problem. New Michelin's are wearing perfect. Definitely get an alignment!

$200 is robbery. Your shop is trying to get you to pay off their alignment equipment. I’m on the East coast and average is $69 to about $120 depending on the shop. Regardless if you’ve lifted it or whatever. I’m Sure there are shops around me that try to pull that $200 crap. I use reputable shops and pay $100 or less.

    +1 $200 seems high.

My shop who align track cars regularly, charges $125.
