Alibaba / AliExpress Camper Shell Thread

I have not seen one specific for the ones who bought it. I have pulled the trigger and I am expecting delivery by end of July to Mid-June timeframe. I will post pictures when I get mine installed.

Post pictures of yours and what have you done to it (Example: added carpet, painted it the same color as your truck, added crossbars, etc.).

 

Which one did you order, if I may ask?

Wow for sale for $4,900? The came he featured for sale is quite nice too. The tent/bed can be access from the inside. I did not think that’s available.

 

When I get mine, I am thinking of getting mine painted the same color of my truck. I saw a white truck and had the camper painted white.

 

That Ad and camper shell is amazing. You can open the roof of the camper shell to access the tent on top. I want one

Oh you already have a Fiberglass shell and looks like that is from Leer and this camper shell you’re expecting in 2-3 weeks will be replacing the existing camper shell.

Youll have to share how it looks. The Alibaba ones are usually very "hard on the eyes" in person. Fitment is usually fairly "universal" looking and not catered to the vehicle and they use angles that dont usually compliment the vehicle. Also the Alibaba ones usually have a very rugged roof rail that doesnt allow for mounting crossbars easily, see below.

 

I ordered mine through a specific vendor that another member used. He provided his own measurements on his 3rd Gen and they built it based on that. I have pictures but they are his so I feel weird sharing them lol.

I do like the look of the OVS shell more, but not for double the price. Especially when theirs is also a Chinese manufactured product.

 

Did he say if the camper leaks when it rains?

The one I ordered have glass opening Windoors all around. Kind of like the white topper I posted above on that white truck.

 

He didn’t mention any leaks, but his doesn’t have side windows.

 

The roof rack cross bars can also be purchased through alibaba. I am not sure how good but if those will work fine. I really do not mind it.

 

100% theyre both made overseas, my $0.02 you would be paying additional for the warranty portion of it. For that cost you get a stateside company that warranties the product and its components vs half the cost for no warranty. Most of these caps havent been on the market for more than 2-3 years if theyve been around that long. So there is no proven longevity and Smartcap deals with warranty issues on the daily for caps 2-3 years old with seals, sealant for panels and adhesives and coatings of the cap itself. Their warranty team takes care of their customers and things are expedited for repair processes not putting you as the customer further delayed.

 

Mine will be booked for shipping tomorrow. When did they ship yours, how long was the shipping and did you already received the camper?

 

It was loaded on the ship March 28 and I got a call today to schedule delivery for this Tuesday. Fingers crossed!
