So I made a pilgrimage from Phoenix to Grand junction Colorado on Wednesday. I went up to have my new springs that I had custom made by Lew at Alcan Springs. The trip was 600 miles one way. Now normally I would’ve had the springs shipped to me but I wanted to have them installed before my trip to the northwest in a month and a half so I opted to have them install them because I had recently had shoulder surgery and was unable to.

The first thing I’ll say is Lew is the nicest guy you would ever meet. A wealth of information about spring, spring rates, what works, what doesn’t work. He’ll ask you all the information on what you’re carrying how much it weighs if you want any raise in height or not which in my case I did not. I’m just carrying an additional 400 to 450 pounds and he accounted for all that and had the springs made to match.

On my drive up from Phoenix Highway 89 which is not bad there’s some pretty rough spots in it though my factory Springs would bottom out bounce wallow all over the road. Highway 160 is even worse it’s a very primitive road by today’s standards hasn’t been maintained very well lots of ruts pavement cracks dips the vehicle felt very very unstable every time I hit a bump it would bounce for two or three oscillations and I know what you’re thinking the shocks but they’re brand new shocks.

After I arrived I stayed at the hotel because it took me nine hours to get there from Phoenix so first thing Thursday morning I drop the truck off at Alcan Spring and Lou was kind enough to give me a ride back to the hotel so I could wait for them to finish the install when it was done they came and picked me up brought me back. I also opted for their U-Bolt flip with the heavy duty bump stop. I paid for everything and away I went.

I’ve got to say it’s like driving a totally different truck. It feels planted it doesn’t bounce around on the road. Wind gust don’t move it around like they used to. It’s actually quite smooth ride you hit a bump you do feel the resistance but it doesn’t bother them out like it did before. Now once it’s out on the trail it should be even better. As Lew explained it with their 8 leaf pack you have a much more progressive spring rate versus the factory 2 springs with an overload which the overload is just basically a piece of flat steel it does nothing it doesn’t really flex it just keeps the springs from bottoming out.

The number one thing I like about this shop everything is American made using American steel all American products. If you’re in the market for Springs give them a call I don’t think you would ever regret it.

Great write up! matches the experience I had with Lew and Tyler last month. drove 1200 miles round trip to have them install custom leaf packs they built for mine. I echo your review to a tee, highly recommend Alcan for custom leaf packs. Great Team - awesome American Made Quality!

Do you have a picture of the heavy duty bump stop?
