I just recently purchased a 2022 Toyota Tacoma TRD off road truck & was wondering about the alarm system. Does it come with a alarm or do you have to have one put in?
The dealership wants to charge me $700 to install an alarm

My OR came with factory anti-theft, I think they all do. But, the dealer can turn it on and off as well. Most don't come with the glass break sensor though, something to think about adding if smash and grab is a concern.

Edit: I wouldn't let the dealer add an aftermarket, they would likely butcher the wiring of your brand new truck.

How can I tell what kind of alarm system they installed? It's a brand new truck & I want a good alarm system. So I want to know if I got ripped off with paying the $700 for a factory alarm that should come with it.

Roll the window down lock the door if you have a fob put it far away from the truck make sure you wait 30 seconds reach inside pull door handle if an alarm goes off you have one. If regular key do the same just don’t have to hide the key and just wait 30 secs

I just checked the sales brochure, factory anti-theft is standard on all trims. So, you should have it and it should be no additional cost.

The engine immobilizer is a state-of the-art anti-theft system that is initiated when you insert your key into the ignition switch or bring a Smart Key fob into the vehicle. The engine will only start if the code in the transponder chip inside the key/fob matches the code in the vehicle’s immobilizer.
If you have the glass break sensor, it will be on the left side switch panel and look like this:

You might check all your paperwork, I would hope they at least provided a user guide if it's aftermarket. Otherwise ask them, they should know what they sold you.

    Welcome to the forum BTW!

I asked them for a manual or user guide for the alarm system & the salesperson said there isn't one.

I recently bought a new trd pro 4runner and had a digital Viper alarm installed, with both impact sensor and tilt sensor and siren, lcd remote fob with 2 way up to 1 mile warning alert. If you live in a high theft area like I do this unit is the way to go, I have had Viper alarms for many yrs in my neighborhood and thwarted several attempts on my previous trucks. Choose a quality auto/stereo/alarm installer someone who knows what they are doing. The one I recently bought is a OBD port plug and play viper digital unit with extras, siren/tilt/impact sensors. Even the oem remotes now arm/disarm and lock/unlock the vehicle. Ended up with total of 4 remotes including the two oem factory ones. The oem toyota app can alert you to tampering but I wouldn't depend on that either, its iffy when and where it works. That is why I added the extra 2 way remote with 1 mile alert to tampering. If I am in the Nevada desert and away from my camp and 4runner I have a tampering alert system that works. Then I can run em down with my SXS. Don't cheap out on your alarm system if you live in a high crime area.

My sr5 only had the immobilizer red flashing light no audible alarm I turned on the alarm in tech stream added a relay for the security horns added the security horns added the hood latch that shows hood ajar and added the gbs kit was like $250 for all of that. Look at your hood latch if you have a plug with a dummy plug in it it all can be done.

No alarm I do not want my wiring spliced into. I have insurance and park in the garage.

The blinking light on the dash, right below the head-unit, is the factory system. If it never blinks or anything, it's probably disabled. If recall the factory system has to be disabled to install an aftermarket system.

This shows Gbs install, the last few post shows I added the hood latch you need the plug in near the latch oem, there is a plug on pass side under hood just hanging near where the hood hinge bolts up the Security alarm plugs in there. Other things are in the attached thread.

If your horn dosent go off now when you open the door after its armed look and see if you have the hood plug if you do it most likely can be turned on with tech stream, then it'll sound the main horns up front the security horns add another horn if the main horns wires are cut the security horn is harder to get at and it'll sound, gbs adds the glass break it works great, hood switch added if the hood gets popped the alarm will sound.

security horns added I added 2 now 4 sound its loud
    IMG_3417 2.jpg
Hood ajar didn't come on until I turned on alarm it tech stream
    IMG_3416 2.jpg
S-horn relay needed to be added there is also a s-horn fuse but mine already had that fuse. S-horn only for the security horns on pass side the normal horn will sound if you don't have the s-horn but the wires could be cut without popping the hood.
    IMG_3418 2.jpg

But you can just turn the alarm on in tech stream then you will get a hood ajar on the dash just go to the hood latch switch and jump those 2 wires together the hood light will go off and now the alarm will sound, I just went ahead and added the new hood hatch it was only $65 or so with the hood latch sensor built in.

    Thread below.

@twtaco$ I like your setup. Great job.

I have a 2018 SR5 with the dummy plug on the hood latch. No audible horn when locked/armed for 30 seconds and doors opened from inside. I have an immobilizer light on dash that works with chip in H key. Panic button on remote activates horn. I added Toyota's GBS harness, but not working.

I am missing the S-HORN relay from the engine bay. Do you have a part number or link to buy this S HORN relay?

How do I get the correct Techstream software to activate the alarm option?

Which cable is best from a laptop to OBD port?

    Thank you in advance.

Just FYI, alarm systems are worth nothing.
Even the highest end alarms can be disabled in seconds by a skilled thief. They are barely even a deterrent as no one cares about car alarms going off at random times of the night and nobody comes looking.

Spend that money on a hidden kill switch and a 24/7 GPS or RFID tracking system instead.
