Morning everyone, I’m new to the forum and looking for advice.
The airbag light is on, on my 2000 Tacoma Prerunner. My mom gave it to my son so I don't know how long the light has been on. I found a broken wire on the seatbelt harness on the drivers seat, so repaired that today. I checked the clip under the seat and it looks clean so I reconnected it.
The light is still on, so I disconnected the negative ground cable for about 20 minutes, to see if it would reset the light, but it's still on.
I was wondering if anyone had a wiring diagram or wiring path, that I could start checking other connections? The 'normal' component that seems to go bad is the clockspring but I didn't want to just replace that without troubleshooting physical stuff first.
    Thanks in advance!

You can't reset the airbag light without a professional level scan tool or a visit to the dealer.

Thanks. I was wondering if I fixed the problem with the wires I corrected if it would reset itself? Over a period of time?

In my personal experience I have never been able to clear an airbag system trouble code without a friends Snap-On scan tool or having the dealer do it after my clock spring was replaced.

Yes SRS Airbag lights will turn off if the problem is resolved. You do not need to clear them, it does a self-check every time you turn it on. Hence why when there is no fault it still takes a longer time for the bulb check to turn off.

Any idea of the number of cycles before a reset, if all problems are corrected?

usually an auto parts store, Advanced, O'Reilly etc will scan it for free because they want to sell you a part.

This. If there has been no actually crash, once the wires are fixed, the light will go off the next time you start the truck.

You will need an advanced scanner to scan for air bag faults. Auto zone scanners can't do it.

Connectors are always the week link. All air bag wiring is covered with a bright yellow sheithing. Follow the wires down and check all connectors.

Quick update, after using the paperclip method to jump across the diagnostic port pins, I came up with 3 codes, 31 54 74. After further research, they all appears to be pointing to the airbag control module being faulty, even though the truck had not been in a wreck. Found one on ebay and $27 later, the airbag system is 100% functional!
Thank you everyone for the help!

Thank you for the follow up. So many wander off after asking for help and we never know the end results.

    Glad you got it fixed.

If you took any photos along the way it would be helpful for future readers if you could post them.
