Some tacomas had a recall on the "spiral cable" damage from engine vibration, mine did, Toyota fixed it in an hour - light was back off :)

The light is on to let you know there is a problem the system. Like mrburns05 said, that could be your issue.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
It was the left front sensor on my truck went bad (probably moisture) Open the hood and look down between the rad and grille. It's got yellow wires going to it mounted to the crash bar. Maybe an unplug and replug will fix?

take it to the dealer. 99% sure yours falls under the clock-spring recall, mine did

It was on all day with the truck on and off. I got out of the gym a bit ago and the light is now off! Hopefully it doesn't come back on

When you visit the dealer, take your VIN number in and inquire about uncompleted recalls. That way, if its an issue beyond the clockspring recall, you can't be charged a diagnostic fee without agreeing to anything first.

Mine did that on and off for a few days when the clockspring failed, there was a couple times I was able to make the light come and go by moving the steering wheel, which I was happy to see. The clockspring replacement under the recall cured the issue.
