My airbag light is on in my instrument panel, along with passenger seatbelt light blinking, with no one/ thing in the seat. Any of y'all know if theres anything I can do so I don't have to deal with the dealership?

There is a thread around here on recalibrating the passenger side seat bottom weight sensor. If I am not mistaken you would scoot the seat all the way forward then all the way back a few times. Let me see if I can track it down a link for you

I work at a BMW dealership. When we get that issue, most of the time it's a seat mat sensor. Now the sensor Toyota uses could be completely different. Not trying to scare you just let you know a possibility.

Also, what happens if you buckle the seat belt on the pass seat?

I’m having a different problem- my passenger light never comes on and airbag goes to “OFF”.
I’ve replaced the occupant detection ecu and reset/calibrated it, have a new buckle on the way. I doubt it’s the wiring between the seat and main airbag ECU. That would leave the main ECU.

Is the ecu part of the sensor?

I have a 2005 so I have a sensor on each corner. Those sensors and a wire from the buckle go to the occupant ecu. There’s a harness between the occupant ecu and airbag ecu. Sometime later that system was replaced with an oil filled blatter that presses on a sensor

    "Each corner"
Is that on the seat rail?
When I put a case of beer on my pass seat it thinks there is a child seat or an adult depending on 12 ok or 30pk. Lol!

Interesting. I'm going to have to look in that more. You have sparked my curiosity.

I put a multimeter on the buckle wires, ohms never changed buckling the belt so figured it was worn. It’s only two wires so I don’t know if it’s a simple ground or if there’s a resistor in line. I’ll report back, definitely do a write up when I figure it out.

It is most likely a hall sensor. I don't remember how to test them off hand.

I thought something like that would need 3/4 wires

So I replaced the buckle, everything works as should now. It cost about $35 new.
