The Airaid filters dosent "filter" well, and the intake just makes noise. No MPG orHP gains.

Thanks Chris. How about the aFe stage 2 SI I believe it's called? It seems to get a lot of good reviews on here

I have the Airaid with my TRD Supercharger...filter fits perfect. Larger intake tube, little turbulence and smooth throttle response. Air Fuel Ratio is very consistent. I actually love this intake.

There was a guy who dyno'd before and after that Airaid. His dyno showed gains.

I like my Volant CAI. The Donaldson dry filter on my Volant won't foul the MAF sensor like an oiled cone filter on most setups. I also feel much safer knowing my filter is a good filter rather than some mesh or spongy material. The filter also has an extremely high surface area compared to most filters, the thing is literally the size of a loaf of bread! It's also rated for 100k per filter, though I'd change it at half that just to be safe. I highly recommend that intake and filter, though it does cost a little more. URD is likely to inhale water when it rains, and if you rain sock the filter you lose a lot of the advantages of the setup.

IMHO from what I've seen most people get slight power gains with most CAI's but lose some fuel economy or vice versa on naturally aspirated setups. In short you may want to consider spending your money on headers or other mods if you want more power from your stock 4.0L.

However, in a forced induction setup like my tacoma there is a huge power increase due to the unrestricted airflow and the nature of an Roots type blower. Proof in point, I drove exactly the same Tacoma as mine from Cochrane Toyota on a test drive without a CAI and even the dealership salesman agreed my truck had way more get up and go with the CAI and a supercharger than a stock truck with supercharger.

FYI, URD filter is not oiled, it is a dry filter. I've had both the aFe Stage II Si and a URD, neither one had any mpg deltas from stock, my experience though.

Good to know. I went off a second hand account of my dealership on that one, lesson learnd.

Anyways I agree with you 100 percent. As many say, you will not feel a power increase if the increase is under 10 percent. Sadly, other than forced induction, there is no one bolt on mod that will get you more than 10 percent. If there was everyone would do it.

Don't know if I believe the 10% aspect, think it is probably closer to 5, but understand the concept.

Just fyi for OP and anyone else interested, some of my personal data
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/performance-tuning/141312-afe-stage-ii-perf-data.html

BTW, in the data above, I couldn't tell a butt-dyno difference until I added the URD CAI and the MAF Cali together. G-tech did show a difference though, but these are not lab environments.

Well it does exist, but most people don't want to spend 4000-6000 dollars on the supercharger or destroy any chance of warrenty work with a tuner chip/ECU lol. I wish you the best of luck, if you find something so easy yet effective I know I'll be one of the first in line to try it out!

After owning, and modifying, a couple of high-performance vehicles over the years I'm 100% convinced that gains from a CAI are minimal at best. The two things you'll definitely get from a CAI are a 'cool looking' air filter under the hood and some additional intake noise. My opinion is that any money spent on a CAI kit can be better spent on something else...a cat-back exhaust system (should return modest performance gains), preventive maintenance, a tune-up, etc.

On my last car a lot of guys did pretty extensive dyno testing on CAIs and found that the best setup was either totally stock or a stock air-box with a K&N drop-in filter. Even on a 400HP+ twin turbo engine the gains were almost laughable considering the cost of most CAIs. Just my two cents...

Varies greatly depending on vehicle and intake design. This specific vehicle/engine has been proven to pick up cost worthy HP, dependant upon which CAI is purchased/installed.
