Ok, Need some help with my 2009 with 77K miles....Detailed my Tacoma this past weekend and took it out for a drive. I had my air selector on defrost and later on went to change it to front vents and it doesn't change. When turned on high you can hear it blowing hard. It seems to still heat and A/C cuts on when selected it just seems the selector knob wont change to any other position. Any ideas or anyone else ever had this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

Vacuum line has come off the selector valve. I don't know Taco's heating system but most all vehicles use vacuum to select where the air goes. Defrost is the default.

Our system uses a mode servo to move position based on where the switch is set. More than likely there is a issue with the servo

That's what I thought. From what I have read I was thinking the Servo Mode Selector motor. Just wanted a few more opinions before I spent money on that.

I said actuators when they are really servos.

Yes, This is the same diagram I came across. Im guessing it would probably be the "mode control servo motor"

Probably the "Air Mix Control Servo Motor".

Wouldn't "Air Mix" Be the hot/cold selector?

You are probably correct. It would be the mode control servo motor.

Intersted to see how this goes for you. I purchased a 09 w 140k this year and the mode selctor doesn't seem to do much. Kinda just blows out of all vents evenly, or maybe just a slight change. Thought maybe it was a weak blower motor or a clogged filter, filter was new. I can hear the motor change from LOW-HI, but there really doesn't seem to me much CFM change between vents while making mode selections. Its enough to warm me up and defrost my windows so I've just learned to live with it.

Yes, The issue your explaining is pretty much what mine is doing. Seems to just blow evenly throughout all vents. Im ok with it now in cooler months here in Alabama but when summer gets here it may be an issue.

Mine randomly started to properly work. Haven’t had any more problems as of now.

Remove the mode control servo and then manually move the diverter to see if it is just stuck or the Servo Actuator is defective.

While unbolted you could watch the actuator move when you change modes.

I ended up having a giant mouse nest right above my blower under the dash. Literally like a basketball size ammount of grass and stuff. Couldn't beleive it, dealership never checked the cabin filter?

cleaned the blower motor changed the air filter and she works great now.

    I have a similar problem.
Changing from vent to defrost work very well. When I put the selector on for the feet, air only blows on the passenger side. Not the drivers side.
    Any guess as to why?

See if the actuators are moving correctly, if they are it's something going on with the doors themselves or something blocking the vent.

Thank you Dm93. I tried looking for this when I dropped the glove box. There is a factory piece of plastic blocking my view. I did order this, and will be looking internal tomorrow when my scope arrives. I borrowed a friend's scope at his garage, but that was for only a few minutes. I was able to locate one door on the passenger side and he thinks there may be two doors that open. I'll update more when I find out.
