P2440 and P2442 error codes popped up.
Shop quoted me about $780 for a brand new Air Injection Pump straight from Toyota. Bought a similar pump from Amazon instead for $130.
Everything was pretty much plug and play. Only difficult part was getting the rubber mounts on the new pump attached to the original bracket.
After disassembly and inspecting the old pump, the foam filter was completely disintegrated and nowhere to be found. The teeth on the fan were brittle. Pump runs fine, still have the error codes though..

The pieces are probably stuck downstream in the switching valves.

Yes. The switching valves get corroded and sticky as well.

Is this something you usually would just replace completely or just clean out somehow?

A few people have taken them apart and cleaned them and they worked for awhile but typically they have to be replaced.

How is the aftermarket one working? I've been curious about them seeing the vast price difference. I posed the question a few months ago, but no one responded (I assumed no one has tried it).

A tuner might be able to disable the SAIS. You’re still spending a few hundred bucks but this way you get some increased power, fuel economy and drivability too.

The Uni Mod can fix this. That foam is the problem. I've had the Uni Mod for years

OP. Am i correct in assuming you have a 2012?

There might be a good use case to buy a 2013+ ECU to plug in so you get the shutdown purge of the system if the valves are a problem for you. (this is assuming the plugs are the same which i believe they are)

Louder than stock. That's the only difference I've noticed.

You should qualify for the open recall, my folks’ 2012 had their secondary air system system completely replaced by Toyota at no charge. I apologize if this thread had gone over my head.

To address the error codes, I would suggest checking the air injection control valves and the air switching valves, as they are also common causes of the P2440 and P2442 codes. Make sure they are functioning properly and not clogged or damaged. If the problem persists, it may be best to take your vehicle to a trusted mechanic who can diagnose and resolve the issue for you.

I’m nearly certain Toyota will address all of OPs concerns for free. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, isn’t this why there’s an open recall on the 2012 secondary air system?

I think that’s 10 years from date of first use. So he would be out of the window.
