you have a CAI stock, just remove the carbon filter with a knife, and replace the filter with a AFE dry boi. save monies!

I put an AFE Magnum force intake on my 5th gen 4Runner. It actually did make a noticeable power gain. The best thing about it was it noticeably changed the time before the transmission would downshift in regular driving. Mileage gain? Nope. I put a Borla exhaust on that one too. No gain there. Just noise. And really annoying noise on the highway. Eventually I will probably put an AFE on my Tacoma. I actually ordered one from AFE direct last month but they were out and said it would be 3-4 months so I canceled. Spent the money on a set of injectors for my notchback instead.

Been using oiled filters for about 15 years, never once an issue with MAF.

Someone in a video I was watching about air intakes, …mention your computer is always making adjustments…so more air , your computer will retune …and any claims about HP …will be very little…

Funny thing in the beginning with a new intake system or high intake filters..most of us will notice a change…
Some small..for other very noticeable…? I believe in K&N …and It did feel better to me..( I do not have it on my Tacoma)..but experienced the K&N in my other trucks..

I have to admit…We all sometimes get caught in the advertisements…. Spending big $$$ for maybe a small gain..?

The more we add the MODS…the more we are all trying to gain back those HP , mileage, and performance..at stock..lol
    Aloha,

I put K & N filters in all my cars. Even if they don't do anything as far as performance, they're washable and in the long run you'll probably save a few bucks.

A replaceable air filters…saves time and money…. Afe makes a dry air filter..you just wash with water…good for those who prefer Non-oil…filters

Those windy and dusty places…and there is a place on the Big Island where we go fishing…your air filters need to replace almost every time..we would carry a spare filter..use those before we head in…and replaced after we come out…

I’ve run thousands of Km on dusty roads and the filter still lasts 30 000km. You say you replace it every trip?

meh. not worth it imo. I got the TRD just because. little more noise and some shiny shit under the hood. I did not install the TRD air filter though as I am on the fence regarding oiled filters so I left the OEM in the air box.

Side note I may have the TRD air filter for sale soon

I had an Injen, which is similar to the AFE Momentum with the front air inlet. Being in a mountainous region, the noise got somewhat annoying when going up grades. I since switched to the TRD Intake, which is less noisy but still looks nice. Not much of a performance change - I just like the look and have the money to buy, so... why not.

I've run both the AFE Momentum GT and the HPS intake tube. The AFE has better throttle response and top end power, and the HPS has better low end power/torque. I also got about 1mpg better with the AFE Intake.

Intake won't do a whole lot by itself, but it pairs nicely with exhaust and a tune. After getting exhaust and a tune I pulled out the AFE and put the stock airbox back in, and the decrease in throttle response and low end/part throttle acceleration was significant enough that it felt like I was back on the stock tune.

I did not replace my air filter every trip…and we carry this extra one (use over & over ) when we travel on this windy/ dusty road..a couple of times a year…..today ..maybe once a year…..use in my other 4x4…sold it…

My Tacoma today has a stock filter, and planning to upgrade , to maybe the AFe dry filter?

For those who found performance gains, “great”. !

I'm using a K&N drop in engine air filter and a K&N cabin air filter. My overall opinion is that the truck runs better when it's hotter (doesn't seem like it's breathing into a paper bag), but the oil drys up rather quickly here in the hot AZ summers. Minimal to none performance gains, minimal mpg gains. The cabin air filter doesn't filter as well as the stock imo, but I've got allergies.

For what it's worth, the TRD intake also uses an oiled air filter. I may switch back to stock as some point, but for now I'm too cheap to fork out another $50 for factory paper filters. :notsure:
