I've got a 2016 OR with about 63K Kilometers (roughly 40K Miles) and to my surprize on the first hot day this spring I noticed my air conditioning is not making any cooling difference now whatsoever. Used to be able to turn the cab into an ice box if I wanted.

I'm kind of bummed it's gone out already. Anyone else have this issue, and is it a common problem on these trucks? This can't be normal life expectancy for the air conditioning system.

Maybe a simple refill of the AC liquid will do the trick!?

Definitely a little premature. Does the compressor kick on? There is a safety override that prevents the compressor from engaging if the coolant is low. Take it in and they’ll check the coolant level and run a pressure test to see if you have any leaks. Best case is the leak will be at the fill port and just hooking up to it and refilling will lubricate it up and stop the leak.

Start with the fuses there's two of them for the AC system, then check the relay. If all 3 of those are working then its likely a leak causing low pressure. The compressor itself could have taken a shit but I think thats unlikely given the age, possible though.

Start simple: Check your cabin air filter. Mine was so clogged, blowing on your hand was more powerful than the AC. Changed out the filter, and back to meat freezer mode!

Good luck! My 2016 w/ 38K miles in at the dealership now. Evaporator has a leak and has to be replaced. $1400 and full dash tear out to replace it.

Automatic or manual A/C? Automatic A/C has a host of sensors that can cause this.

There's a way to get it to display specific DTCs for the A/C...I'll look it up and post when I get home.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, although I must admit member "Freetime" has scared the crap out of me!
I've got it scheduled for a dealer visit, $145 to check the system over. They can't get me in for another 2 weeks though, they are totally swamped in their service department.

If you’re not under warranty, perhaps a local/small business garage service center could diagnose and repair for less? $145 seems steep just to test...

You never said if you had a manual or automatic A/C...
This only works for automatic A/C.

Finally got my truck looked at by my dealer this week and apparently it's a blown O-ring seal so it leaked and now has no charge left.
They told me they felt this happened somewhat prematurely and they would share in the repair costs, whatever that means. It's going in next week to get fixed once a new O-ring comes in, it's about a 3 hour job I'm told.

the a/c system on 3rd gen trucks uses 1234yf refrigerant not the old r134a. which is cheaper and widely available to do simple recharge the fittings are different and old style rechargers for r134a will not attach to the new ports. right now an 8oz can of 1234yf goes for 70$..... so if you only want to spend that money once you better find where the leak is coming from.... gone are the days of just recharging once a summer or however long the system holds.

Probably from lack of use. I'm guessing in Canada you don't use your AC a whole lot.

All AC’s will eventually leak as the piping is sealed by O-rings...it’s common among all manufacturers.

They are going to 100% cover the entire cost of the O ring, all you have to pay for is 3 hours labor @ $150/hr, 2.3 lbs of super eco friendly refrigerant @$265/lb and oh yeah, the $300 EPS surcharge for not recovering the lost refrigerant.

But again, the good news is that 75 cent O ring is gratis

Threads like these have me rethinking the extended warranty. Good luck OP
