It's time to put a new set of tires on my 2001 4x4 Tacoma. Currently running 32x11.50 wild country mtx. They've been good for the money, and lasted 4 years with lots of miles and zero problems, on 15x8 wheels with -33mm offset.

My only complaint is severe road noise, and very poor traction in the rain. Im guessing that's the hard compound rubber, that helps it last so long.

Anyway, looking for a recommendation. Truck is a daily driver, but sees random trail and mud play times.... nothing crazy. I like the aggressive look as well, but at this point would like to opt for a better grip in the rain, and some quieter rides. Hoping to keep the cost under $650 or so.

    Thanks for the help!!!

A lot of them are quiet when new, but get louder as they wear.

2nd the Michelin’s, I don’t think you get any quieter for an all terrain. Great all around tire and they look good in the larger LT sizes with the deeper tread. I had 285/70r17 load range E on my 4Runner.

Cooper st maxx. The diagonal cut in the treads makes it super quiet, but the all around traction is untouched both on and off-road. If my truck wasn’t solely for trips, I would have them instead of mud terrains. They’re a hybrid between an AT and an MT.

I’m running cooper at3 xlt in 285/75/16. Tires before were bfg km2. The coopers are a thousand times quieter, I like a mud tire for looks but never have time to get off road much and these Cooper have been great for the last year I’ve had them.

Noise is directly related to the design of the tread shoulder and spacing on the tire. Super Swampers get their distinct road noise sound from the large chunks of rubber that forms the shoulder, whereas a passenger car tire doesn't have that design which is why they are quieter. One of the design methods to combat road noise is alternating the size of the rubber on the shoulder.

The tire on the left will be louder than the one on the right because of the spacing or gap in tread.

If you see any mud like we have down here in south louisiana any AT is going to suck. Ive had maxxis buckshots on mine for about 2000 miles. They arent too loud and do fairly well in the rain. Buddy that recommended them to me runs them on all his jeeps and loves em

Hankook Dynapro MT's were the quietest mud tire I have ever ran but, I don't think you can get them any more. I have Dick Cepek Extreme Country's right now pretty quiet but I don't have many miles on them.
