What code are you getting? I'm trying to fix a C1239 on my dad's truck. I swapped the sensor from front driver side to rear driver side but no change in the code. I just order that rear wiring harness on Rockauto. I'll report back on that next week.

Also Autozone has one for $300ish but it's got a lifetime guarantee, I cant recommend it but I thought about that option. Good luck.

I forget the code but the description was literally left rear speed sensor. I broke the original one trying to remove it.

Bonus question! Whats the best way to clean the hole for the sensor? If i just use a wire wheel in there all the rust/dirt will end up in the axle?

Just installed the new wiring harness in the rear on my Dad's 06. I zipped tied it along side the old one just to test it. I cleared codes and took it for drive but the C1239 came back. I swapped the front and back sensors previously with no change in code.

I pulled the sensor. It was wet and the o-ring was damaged. The wheel area on my truck looks about the same as yours. I cleaned it and replaced the o-ring. I have a little set of o-rings I got from Harbor Freight. They don't seem to be doing the trick thou. I did this same thing a couple months ago. Do I need a certain size? I did buy a single o-ring from the hardware store before that but it ended up chewed up too....Finding an o-ring that works is probably a big part of my problem.

A friend of mine mentioned seeing a SouthMain Auto video that Eric explain he needed to sand off the rust too make sure the sensor it getting a proper ground. He put an ear plug in the hole, sanded and brake cleaned. I see a metal ring around where the screw fastens the sensor to the hub. Does that need to be metal to metal on the hub?

I cleaned inside the sensor cavity with a paper shop towel. I reinserted the sensor and carefully gave a little turn, I pulled and whipped it, doing that a few times. I might get the air compressor out and blast air in there ???

I did a short drive to get food and no light but we'll see how long that lasts. When the brake light comes back on, I will cut the new harness back out and just used the old harness again. The new one didn't seem to help the problem and the old one is still nicely loomed in place. I only unplugged it. It was a cheap option to see if it worked ...Oh well, I'll hang on to it just in case.

Did you pick a sensor brand to try?

I didn't order a sensor yet this is also my old mans truck haha. It used to be mine. I'm thinking I will go with a beck/arnley and I have been told NTK and Delphi are also good. That ear plug trick sounds like a good idea I will try that.

Have you checked the other threads on here for the code you have? There's some pretty good information. If you switched sensors with the front and code stayed the same I don't think you need a new sensor. You tried a new wire. Were you getting voltage to the wire/sensor?

You said that the sensor was wet. Maybe gear fluid? I wonder if you have a bad axle seal/wheel bearing and the play in the bearing is not allowing the sensor to pick up on the signal. Or maybe just water getting past the bad oring shorting it out? Or maybe the tone ring inside the axle is just dirty and rust/dirt between the tone ring and sensor is messing things up. Just some ideas im no expert though hahah. Good luck

Yeah this was a truck I bought after I wrecked mine. I intended to use one to fix the other but after some consideration 2 is better that one. We're keeping his stock and mine is obviously a mutt.

Dad paid a shop down the street to open up the the rear drums and clean and adjust them. It turned cold and rainy before I could get up the courage to do it myself. I'm still learning. Anyway They said there was no signs of leaks. The fluid was definitely just water and dirt.

I tried 2 o-rings this time you can see it the picture. a smaller on the inside and a larger on the outside.
