I recently bought a new '23 Tacoma Off-Road. It did not come with the parking sensors or blind spot monitors. I'm fine without the BSM but the parking sensors are a bit annoying to not have. What would be the process to installing an aftermarket TSS sensor to my front grill (if i bought one of the TRD Pro ones with the TSS garnish). Do any of those wirings come standard that i'd just be hooking up? is it better to just get something more custom done? any advice appreciated.

    * the front sensors are more important to me than the rear, as the camera serves me fine. all would be ideal though.

is that all that's needed to use the sensors? the wiring to the car already in there? a bit unfamiliar with how these systems work.

i can just add the TSS Garnish and the wiring is already behind the grill to connect it to the beeping in the cab ?

Yes all TRD Off Roads (and other models), have the TSS feature. It comes standard. It's already wired up and hidden behind the Toyota Oval.

This is my truck with the OEM grille:

This is my truck with the heritage grilled:

The TSS sensor is behind the oval and easily removable so you can add it to the aftermarket grille. There are YouTube videos how to do it. You can do it yourself in under 15 minutes.

thats great to know -- this is exactly what i was looking for.

so basically my car just came with a grill without the sensor in the grill? seems strange if they're all wired by default to have some sold without the sensor

The Toyota oval IS the TSS sensor. Get it? It's wired up and hidden behind the logo.

This is what is behind the grill & oval:

ok this might be another horribly dumb question -- but are the TSS sensor and the parking sensors different?

i'm just wondering if i have the TSS sensor wired into my truck by default. what connection / sensor am i missing for the parking sensors? and can those be installed aftermarket

The TSS sensor is for braking. The parking sensors (BSM) are totally different. All Tacoma's come with TSS installed, but the BSM/Parking sensors are an option/package that you must pay extra for.

You do have the TSS wired into your truck right now. It is behind the black Toyota oval badge in your grille.

This YouTube video explains it in more detail (hope this helps):

I'm not aware of any tacomas having a front parking sensor.

So, just to get the emblem off, I still have to take off the whole grill? But it looks like the TSS is NOT actually connected to the emblem, so just the single screw and 2 tabs to release the emblem?
Maybe, if the grill has to come off to do the front end repair, I'll get the guy to hand me the emblem to cover.

    Jesus christ, the misinformation here...

TSS is the forward looking radar, used for dynamic radar cruise control as well as the pre-collision system.

BSM is the blind spot monitor, it uses 2 quasi millimeter wave radar sensors located in the rear bumper to detect cars in either the left or right blind spot. These sensors also provide the truck with RCTA which is rear cross traffic alert.

Parking Assist, are the usually 4 sensors located in the front and rear bumper that send signals to the cabin to beep the closer you get to an object.

Im not sure if the 3rd gen comes with parking assist sensors in the front bumper. But the radar emblem is not responsible for those beeps.

No front park sensors available on 3rd gen. Rear only from Toyota. You MIGHT find an aftermarket system, google is your friend.
