Forgive me if this has been addressed elsewhere.

I'm looking to upgrade my head unit on my 2011 Base AC. I've read a lot of recommendations to check Crutchfield and to use the vehicle identifier. I cannot make heads or tails on whether or not these aftermarket head units support the volume & channel controls on the steering wheel. If I upgrade will I basically be going without the steering wheel controls?

Check Crutchfield and use the vehicle identifier.

I ended up putting in a Sony XAV-AX100 to support CarPlay and Crutchfield made it easy. Plug and play for all steering wheel controls. Only thing the HU supports that I haven't gotten figured out yet is the backup camera.

AWSC-1 will make them work with pretty much any decent head unit. There's a more direct-fit harness than what that thing comes with, but even without that it's only 3 or 4 wires. IIRC one goes from a keyed power source to the unit and one wire from the truck side gets grounded (those are best done by wiring to the usual stereo adapter harness) and there's one or two wires from the truck side that get wired to the AWSC-1 harness.

I have one in my Subaru and my Tacoma, they both installed exactly the same I think. Pretty damn easy, just follow instructions.

I’m about to tackle the same but would love to get the backup camera off the rear view mirror and onto the head unit. I can’t find much on this and find it hard to believe people like the stock configuration and aren’t changing this!?

Agree with the Crutchfield recommendations. There are stereo models that support steering wheel controls and added camera. My '05 came with the JBL system but no camera. I bought a base model Kenwood with BT to stream music/phone calls along with front/rear camera capabilities. I amazoned some cheap cameras and added front and rear cameras. Makes a huge difference trying to park a DCLB with a softopper. If you plan on installing it yourself, pay Crutchfield the extra $25 to pre-wire and crimp the wires for you. It makes it virtually plug/play.

Crutchfield will give you the options for your Truck when you select the headunit you want to purchase. Great folks and able to help in an online chat if you need too.

I installed the Alpine ilx-107 and used the Maestro RR for the steering wheel controls.

I changed mine. Bought the adapter off ebay from a forum member. You should be able to find the adapter here. https://camera-source.com/

Have the same radio. Love it back up camera was easy. I couldn’t get the steering wheel controls to work though. It not like i can reach the volume knob, one of the main reasons to buying that radioABA8FFE4-F5E3-499C-A4C4-2D0DEE6DBC4A.jpg
