I'm curious what y'all recommend for aftermarket keyless entry in a 1st gen. I have an automatic 01 double-cab prerunner 2WD 3.4L which did not come with a keyless system originally, at least as far as I can tell.

When I bought the truck in Feb it had a crappy non-working I forget the brand. I had a local shop remove it and install a cheap one they had on hand, a Scytek A15, but it doesn't work consistently. Sometimes I'll press the unlock button and it works. Other times I need to press it twice or thrice.

What I'm wondering is what system available now in 2022 is recommended? Low cost would be great but at this point I'm thinking I should just say anything under $1k because I want something reliable. It would be awesome if it is 2-way and even better with remote start capability, but those are just extras that would be nice. What I want most is reliable locking and unlocking.

I was looking on Amazon and think Compustar CS4900-S (4900S) looks interesting. I assume the Compustar CS7900-AS is a higher-end model so that seems like another option. I'd be having a pro install it so I would just need to make sure I buy all the required parts.

On a related note, currently when I press the unlock button on either of the Scytek A15 remotes it takes maybe 3-4 seconds before the doors unlock. With my previous vehicle, an 04 Corolla with factory system, it unlocked immediately. I was told the delay now is because the system has to do some internal checks before it will unlock. Is this true? I'd love if a different system didn't have this delay but if it's normal I'll just live with it.

Does your truck have powered door locks? If so buy a RS3000 keyless entry door module.

Yeah I have powered locks. Would you happen to know if this might be plug-n-play if I do get it? I'm hesitant to get something so old but then again it's Toyota so I assume it's reliable and would work fine after this long.

Can you be more specific please? What exactly would you like to see in the interior?

I did have an LED in one of those which is connected to the Scytek system I had the installer put in a few months ago. I think the LED was previously connected to the crappy aftermarket non-working system that had been put in by a previous owner. I don't recall seeing that box last time I was behind there but I should check again just in case.

That tells me the wiring is in place for keyless entry. That’s good news. Where is it located?

Well yeah I have this aftermarket system installed: https://scytek.net/product/a15/

The wiring is connected to that so do you still think there might be wiring that would support the RS3000 module? I just assumed the LED came with the previous system.
