    Hey guys,

I just had new wheels put on by discount tire. I had them unmount the tires off of my stock rims and put them on my new FJ rims I purchased. When I got home, I noticed my all four of my stock rims had been damaged.

Anyone have any advice on what I should do? Has this ever happened to anyone?

    Pics?

Never had a problem with Discount Tire, at least with rims, they are pretty darn good at protecting alloys, they work with them all the time..

all four of them look like this.... even on the inner side it is dented... I plan to talk to the manager tomorrow since they are closed now. I just hope they won't be jerks about it and say "we didn't do that." If that happens, its their word against mine...

    That's from wheel weights.

    Not their fault.

that is not really damage. they have to take the weights off the rim. i also had stock rims, and i bought some fj anthricite. you can tell them to put the sticky weights on it. it will minimize scuffs. the only issue with the sticky weights is that the next time you have to rebalance the wheels there will be glue residue on it.

I've been in the tire service industry for over 10 years. Unfortunately this happens with the wheel weights, and it wasn't their fault. I put new tires on my truck 2 weeks after I bought it, and even then the OEM wheel weights left scuff marks behind. It happens and there isn't anything that anybody could have done to prevented it. Sorry

Edit: No I don't work for discount tire or any of their affiliates

That is Definitely from the Wheel Weights. I wouldnt bother going back to Discount Tire but that's my opinion. They didnt cause the damage.

ah I see, are these weights a "must" to be taken off?

seems like I have a 4 useless rims now, that I was planning on selling as "like new" because my truck only had 5000 miles on it.

If they hadn't taken them off, they would've scratched the entire rim when they removed the tire.

Yeah, they had to take them off. The damage was done before you ever took the wheels in.

I would state mileage and take pics of the bad spots. I agree with the others above about this being where the wheel weights were. You may can try to clean is up some. Not sure.

Well they are not useless nor are they new. 5000 miles is not new, it is used. Just do a little buffing on them and clean them up and put a price on them.

Check the work before you leave the place of business. For all they know because you signed that they could think you did the damage.

agree with most. Not their fault.

not to post jack but when I had my leafs put on at dealership they scratched side of my truck (pretty sure happened there) Very anal about scratches but I cannot prove they did it. Looks obvious like someone keyed it. Park away from people and didn't go anywhere this past weekend.

    I know it sucks.

I actually had a similar issue with discount tire brand new rims and the scratched one bad I had them replace the whole rim on their dime. But I agree with the rest wheel weights are a bitch.

That damage is likely from overzealous use of a hammer during installation.

Your claim should be with Toyota, not Discount. The damage was there when you brought the truck in to them.
