Buddy of mine has a frontier, the way the bed extender attatches to the truck is via brackets that slide in the rails. This way extender can slide the entire length of the bed and doesn't have to be removed. It's great when we use it on mountain biking trips because we can slide the extender all the way to the front of the bed making a compartment to hold our gear while the bikes hang over the tailgate.

Anyone know of any mounting brackets made to fit the tacoma bed rails that the extender can be attached too or any ideas on how the fab something similar.
I already tried fitting the Nissan brackets but their rail system is much larger.

    Thanks in advance all

    Cheers

Bumping this in hopes of someone knowing the answer. I also have a friend with a Frontier that has the bed extender that mounts on the rails. I was really hoping to find something like this for the Tacoma.

Both extenders are made by Amp. Have you tried using the frontier bracket on the Tacoma? I'm betting with the right nuts/bolts it's doable.

Here's a pic of the bracket

Sounds like the OP may have tried just that. I'd agree that something could be fab'd up, but the utility of it might not be quite the same as on the Frontier. Looking at my truck, it appears that the wheel wells would limit just where you could slide it to a couple feet near the back, or all the way toward the front.

I like the idea of a contained space forward though. It might be simpler to just pick up a set of the optional quick latch brackets and mount them forward of the wheel wells with appropriate spacer blocks and backer plates. This way it'd have the same functionality of the Tacoma one, but could also be placed up front, and more securely mounted as well.

My friend took the one out of his truck and tried dropping it in mine. It's actually too wide by about an inch. It just barely fits in ... and there doesn't appear to be enough room to fab mounts on the sides.

Did anyone figure out a workaround on this or discover a 3rd party solution? My brother also has a frontier and I love this system. Makes the bed extender so much more usable.

I'm wondering the same thing. There has to be a way to mount the bed extender to the rails. I can't believe they didn't design it that way in the first place, especially since the rails are there, might as well use them
