I’ve been complaining about the lack of bass in my Tacoma and for my birthday my kids surprised me with a JBL self Powered Sub. https://www.jbl.com/subwoofer-solutions/SUBBPSL2AM.html?ged=off

I’ve been reading forums and looking up all the information I can.

I took the panel off the current sub and my question is should I tap into the audio off the original sub and then run power to the battery?

Has anyone done this? How is the sound after? I was planning on doing a full upgrade, but I kinda want to show the kids I installed it. Was going to install in the other storage bin.

I got it to work and I will say it makes a huge difference. After some tweaking with the sub settings I got it to fill in where the current stock JBL doesn't. I attached a picture of where I drilled a hole (added a grommet) in the back of the storage area. Also added a picture of the JBL stock amplifier wire I spliced into.

Wait so where did you install the new sub? Pics? Did you just leave the stock sub in there just disconnected?

I left the stock sub connected and spliced the new sub inline with it. I put the new sub in the storage compartment behind the driver side back seat. I’ll try and take some pictures once I finish making a better stand for the sub. Right now it’s sitting on styrofoam. Haven’t had much time to finish it up, but it’s working great.

Is there any update on your system? I see a lot of after market “plug n plays” for the tacomas, but nearly all of them exclude the JBL systems. I want to add another sub to my truck, but I want to keep my JBL audio just with the addition of more bass.

I also want to avoid as much wire splicing and connecting as possible. Lol

    Any recommendations?

this thread a little further down deals more with the connections. at the very least, you'll absolutely need to splice into a minimum of 2 wires near the amp to get the audio signal out of it, but once you have that audio signal, you can do either a really nice amp and sub, or any one of the amplified sub units. you'll still need to run power/ground to the new sub/amp, but that's not too bad.
