Hey all, been perusing the forums for a bit and came stumbled across the TSB for adding an electric fan to the front of the AC condenser. This interested me considering I live in South Florida, and my AC takes quite a long time to actually start cooling.

I have zero interest in bringing in my truck to my local dealer(s), so I decided to just do some research and just add a manually switched fan myself. I figured I'd turn it on when I really need it (hot days, long idle times, etc.), and not necessarily need to start splicing into AC wiring.

If there is any interest, I can write it up as I go along. Did a fair share of searching around this forum but nothing was exactly to my needs/wants.

My question though, before I begin: I have sketched up this wiring diagram and was wondering for my electrically inclined folks... does it seem right?

Further, I'm adding a OEM style switch and only wish for it to light up when the fan is actually on (I've had success wiring OEM switches like this). Is the location of the blue wire correct to achieve that task? See the fancy Microsoft Paint yellow star for reference.

The fan will be blowing towards the engine. It's going to be mounted the same exact way as in the TSB (mounted on the condenser, pushing air). Freon is good to go.

What is this? China switch to which OEM switch?

How's the relay actuated on the coil side?

Ch4x4 switch, typical switch by the looks of it. Set up the same as all my others.

Also the grey blue and black wires in my little switch diagram are just the wires coming from the relay to the switch

In your drawing I don't see the fused power from switch then to relay coil.

Is the fused power to the switch accessory necessary if I only want it to light up when the fans are on? The diagram you sent supposedly is for when you want the switch to light up on ignition.

In the diagram its a dual LED switch. One for finding it when dark, like the rest of the dash switches. The other for when the circuit is on.

Right, so if I want just light when the circuit is on, the switch diagram I have should be good to go?

Not unless you magically get fused power to the switch.

So in my diagram the blue wire is not needed?

Your diagram is incorrect, it has no way to power the relay coil...

    Here's another iteration:

Both LED's ON when switch is pressed. Just remember to use thinner gauge wire to and from the switch.:burp:
