    Hi,

Is it a big problem converting a non tach truck to one with a tach and changing out the gauge cluster to fit the same opening. Using the same year cluster but with the two gauges ( speedo and tach ) instead of just the speedo.

It's a pretty easy swap. You need to use the same year or newer. 95.5 to 97 are cable driven and 99 to 04 are digital. (I hear some 98 and 99 base models were cable driven.) you also need to make sure you get one from a 4 cylinder, you can use one from a 2.4 or 2.7. A v6 cluster will not work on your truck.

    Hi,

Thanks for that info. I need to pull the cluster in order to repair my temperature gauge and since I was going to all that trouble I thought about the upgrade. Now I need to determine if it's a cable. From what your saying if it's digital then the connector has a terminal for the Tach built into it ? Just plug it in and that's all there is to it ?

The tach signal wire is already included in the wiring that goes to your existing cluster.

When you unplug the connections to your current cluster and plug in a new cluster with a tach it will work as expected. (As long as you get the right one for your truck)

The big thing you need to make sure is the cable for the speedometer. You can see the difference in the 2 from the front. If you have a cable driven spedo you will see a mechanical odometer like picture 1. Picture 2 is the digital.
