I own a 2011 Tacoma with the non-touchscreen audio head unit. I see that eBay has used Toyota touchscreen units with bluetooth capability for low $300s. Can one of those newer units work in my 2011 Tacoma without too many mods? Also, adding a USB connection port would be a plus.

I added a 2012 unit to my 2006 Taco, plugged right up, 20min install.

Got the radio for free on here from a local member who was doing an upgrade.

only downside I have is that there’s no mic for hands free calling, I have to do some research on how to add, but bluetooth works otherwise for music, etc…

I just put a etune unit from a 15 I acquired for free in my 09. I had to get the microphone harness, sat radio antenna, regular antenna adapter, and another adapter harness for my steering wheel controls to work. Way nicer than the factory 09 set up.

    I would not recommend it

Those units suck. Touchscreen not responsive, if your finger touches the raised surround while touching the screen it doesn’t register a touch, low resolution, shitty options, etc

    Put an aftermarket screen in

I like the joying I put in my 2015, 100% plug and play and it works very well
This is the one I got- https://www.joyingauto.com/joying-9...or-toyota-tacoma-2005-2015-apple-carplay.html
There are a lot of other options out there

Why not go aftermarket and get a better head unit and features?

I am ready to pull the trigger on the Joying 9” unit. Any regrets or is it all rainbows and unicorns? Does it come with the plug for the OEM camera and did you get the OBD option?

wouldn’t there be a consensus by now on what’s best

which I’m guessing is Joying HU since it seems to have the biggest HU thread

I don’t know how important Bluetooth is, which single DINs now also claim to have and are cheaper

and the fact getting a big screen deletes the useful storage cubby underneath a single DIN

But then folks couldn’t stream porn hub, jerk with one hand, text with the other and steer with their knee. SMH.

13-15 touch screens are marginal at best. Could be worse but seems like years behind the rest.

Joying will be installed in my truck when the weather warms.

This ^. For OP ( @Edslittleworld ), I know it might be an economical decision, but there are decent touch-screen HU (like the Joying, Dasaita, etc.) that are probably worth the extra dosh unless you get a factory HU for free. Like Steelhead said, I'm giving my personal anecdote: I don't even have a 2013-15 HU, I have the old 2012 first model Entune, doesn't accept the latest firmware, etc. It WORKS, but I'll be considering upgrading to something after Winter. If I do and you're still in need, I'd be willing to toss it your way for just the cost of shipping, but I don't know if you'd want it lol. The only really good thing I can say is that the stock HUs come with the SiriusXM tuner built in. Otherwise...it's a serviceable super lower res, slow touch-screen. It does JUST enough to not make it a priority, but it is pretty bunk.

    No regrets, works well
Plug for the camera is there, but it’s weird, it comes in on the harness and then it comes back out to the video input. Whatever it works. Mine is a 2015 with the camera already in the dash tho, I suspect more would have to be done if you have the screen in mirror, it sure what years that is

    didn’t get the obd adapter

Thanks, I was looking at a package from Crutchfield (Kenwood HU + install package) and it is an  $900!

I have a 2014 with the camera on the HU. Now I am just undecided on the 9" or 10" unit as they are about the same price.
Hopefully the NYE Champagne will bring more clarity on my choice.
I just want Apple Car play so I don't have to fiddle with my phone. The rest is gravy.
