What are the chances the 4th gen gets the active shutter grill like the rest of the hybrid cars?

A manual control of the active grill would be amazing here in MN to get my 3rd gen warmed up faster.

Probably pretty good - the tundra has it

If It does, Im totally going to try to adapt it to our trucks. Just think of how nice that will be to push a button, and get faster heat on those 10 degree days, or the slight bump in mpg while cruising on the highway.

I believe the NX 350h does not have active shutters so coin toss on whether the upcoming Tacundra will

As long as it doesn't cover the inter-cooler.

If its going to be like similar cars with it, then it should cover the top 75%, but it will only be closed at start up and on the highway to improve mpg and warm up times.

The grille shutter would be cool. The active chin strap on the Tundra is goofy and looks pretty bad.

Just watched a video of it, not going to lie, I kinda like the idea, but that thing would get smashed here in MN.... Also, I like how it has a QR code on the part that sends a person to a video of how to put it in service mode.

Like you said, I think it is a bad spot on a truck to put something active. Begging for high repair costs.

We've had too many cars with subframes that were low and forward enough to contact parking blocks. Brings up familiar feelings.

Dumped the Tacoma, that's all it needed.
The truck should do this automatically… that’s a huge part of why they were engineered…

Im talking about getting the active shutters and retrofitting them to my 3rd gen. Since I dont have the needed control computers I would just put a switch in to open and close them.

If it’s going to have a turbo, it’s almost a given it’s going to have active shutters.

Likely as mentioned in the turbo, plus they are going to have to find efficiency anywhere they can. I’d think closing them when cooling not needed, would reduce drag?

everyone likes the active grill shutter untill you tag a bird with one on the highway and the check engine light comes on cruise turns off and you have to take it to the shop.. pull the whole front clip off because its behind everything and then its 1k$ job to fix a plastic miny blind on your truck...

its just an instance. chevy has been using grille shutters for a while now and they break more often than you think.. its just one more reason for the check engine light to come on. i know its a toyota so it will probably be more robust. but just somthing to think about.. 3rd gen has all the room in the world to mount stuff behind the grill. maybe not so much any more.

Still probably cheaper than replacing the AC condenser from a bird smacking it.
