active grill shutter question

What models of the 4th gen have active grill shutters behind the grill ? Does the Offroad have them?

 

I'm pretty sure all of them have it

 

I know for the tundra the PRO and SR do not so was wondering if same on tacoma ?

 

The shutter malfunction isn't so bad when you end up with a brand new loaner.

 

The shutter doodad is on every Tundra sans the top and bottom trim? Interesting.

 

I'm pretty sure that the purpose of the shutter is to improve mileage slightly and reduce emissions. Since both of those are driven by government edict, I don't see how they wouldn't be on every single vehicle.

 

on the SR its a detuned engine, so probably no benefit overall. cant say on the pro.

probably cost savings to pass along to customer how ever minute it is.

Yeh def not on the tundra trd pro or the SR. Was hoping it wouldn’t be on the offroad taco. I will have to check on the TH and new pro taco.

More functional than the hood scoop.

 

In time, it will be removed, but not during the warranty period. Dang things have been around since the 1920's. Wish they would have installed an on/off switch. I can only see them useful in extreme cold weather.

 

Biggest issues is the canbus system and how removing things like this or the active front spoiler (3rd gen tundra) throws codes all over the dash and keep popping up warnings in the small MID area. I have a 3rd gen Tundra and was hoping they would omit the grill shutters just like no fixed front spoiler on the TRD Offroad. They already eliminated the auto start stop on the offroad. I sent some messages to some buddies to see if the TH or Pro has the AGS's.

 

My brother's a mechanic and says these are on a lot of cars. On one model (don't recall what) the labor to replace the actuator is 8 hours. So, the most common fix is to get a wire hook in there, give it a good yank, and keep driving.
