Is anyone aware of a replacement for the leather shift boot? I would love an accordion rubber one if it even exists! I used to drive a 1990 Pathfinder and the rubber boot was the bomb, the pleather in my current Subaru is harder to keep clean and doesn't look as good. My MT Tacoma is on order and I'm daydreaming.

Man, I miss that car, I should have never sold it. I had this maroon on marron scheme but it was the highest trim so the fabric was nicer. Anyway, does anyone else prefer these? Is there anything like this for 3rd gen Tacomas?

The stock vinyl boot was not my favorite. redlinegoods.com makes shift boots in a few styles that are much better than stock. I got the basic leather one. I would stay away from the E brake boot and console cover from those guys.

With the non-rectangular shape of the console, it might be hard to find an accordion style without some searching. I haven't seen one discussed here.

There’s different ways to play around with the stock boot and make it look way better than stock. Haven’t seen anyone with an accordion boot style yet. As tonered mentioned, the shape may be why.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that looks even harder to keep clean! That will trap so many crumbs and all the hair from my dog :rofl:

That looks pretty nice! How did you get the pleather to stay down there?

This is true. LOL I’m almost OCD level clean so it doesn’t bother me as long as I keep on top of it.

Thank you sir! It’s one of my favourite mods.
Stays there with a heavy duty Zip-Tie and duct tape LOL no issues.

    Nice!

So you had to remove the plastic cover right?

Fun idea. There are tons of options online for square boots. I bet they could fit with a little bit of work. Do it!

Kinda. It’s all one big trim piece from the arm rest, around the shift and brake boot, to the front cubby.
Remove the shift knob then Pull up on the centre trim starting from the storage cubby (you’ll see where it starts) and it just pops up. You can remove the ebrake handle for better access but I didn’t bother.
Once you have the piece popped out you can invert the boot.. a zip tie holds the chrome collar, snip that and it comes off.. then it’s just basically placing the boot exactly where you want it, slap a zip-tie around it, and I used duct tape to just make sure it stayed there. Then just put everything back together.
I’d also recommend using loctite on the knob and lock washer if you go this route.
I wasn’t a fan of the stock shifter look, of the grommet look, nor a fan of chrome, plus I wanted a decent amount of the shifter exposed cause it looks awesome (in my opinion). And the cement TRD shift knob is bad ass, feel great, and really adds to the character of the interior.
I have more pics somewhere in the ‘show me your knob’ thread lol .. that’s where I got the idea.

Awesome, thanks for the explanation. I will do that when I get bored of my “custom” boot retainer look.

Yeah, I never liked the stock knob and that chrome. Not sure who in Toyota thought all those interior chrome accents would look great. Just like that ugly chrome bezel around the grille on 18s and 19s. Don’t even get me started on the original cheese greater grille, haha!

That's what I've noticed, and the "how much work to make it fit?" question has crossed my mind. Now if I could only convince the American auto market to go back to color-matched interiors!

My tractor has a accordion boot for my loader control and you are right, that would be bad-ass in a 80's way

I’m thinking there’s a zillion boots for Tractors, bucket trucks, Bobcats, Caterpillars, etc. that might work…

    Better go dumpster diving.
    Junk yard treasure hunting.
Old Suzuki s or Nissans with black or charcoal color interior should have a something your after. Then paint to match?

Ebay ? Full of great random finds. I took "T" center caps from a 70 s land cruiser and slapped them into my wheels.
