A lot of dumb bean counter decision with this new truck. Access Cab is gone even though they were selling every single one since 05-23. They obviously deleted the jump seats which takes away functionality of the truck, XtraCab gets only leaf suspension and with less payload than DoubleCabs, no 4x4 TRD Trim, no sliding rear window, and no manual transmission with XtraCab. The TRD Prerunner trim seems completely pointless to me. to me, it’s basically a large toy. Toyota truck heritage is an extended cab style config with manual trans. All this gone.

Toyota didnt make money on access cabs or fleet models. It's a business and they make choices based on demand.

100% access cabs sat longer on our lots. Same goes for the old regular cabs.

So what if they sat a little while longer. You still sold them all eventually, I see them all the time. Toyota made AccessCabs for 19 years. Toyota were losing money 19 years?

I don’t know what you guys are seeing but the configurator for my area shows an available xtracab SR5 in a manual with the midrange power engine and a xtracab SR with the low power engine and a manual.

Again its a business, higher demand means more mark up. No one wanted them, saw less and less once the 2020 revision kicked in. You don't want vehicles sitting on lots.

Toyota doesnt subscribe to commercial trims typically, the SR is rare to see.

I'd be surprised if they continue this extra cab or drop it like the 2nd gen regular cab was. But I was wrong about the manual being discontinued so who knows. Maybe people will opt for lower trims.

It’s not about making money for a corporation Toyotas size, it’s about making more money more efficiently. If the data supports that regular and access cabs weren’t big sellers then it makes sense to stop producing them and simplify the production line and parts requirements.

They didn't kill the xtracab, they just got rid of the rear doors to access the back of the cab.

"higher demand means more mark up."

    MSRP.
In my area, many dealers use MSRP pricing with no additional mark-up.
I might suggest that most dealers who use MSRP and avoid additional mark-ups would garner the most business from current customers and new alike.

I have already expressed my view on the loss of access cab (with doors) to "back to the past" xtra cab (no doors) --notably not providing the option in higher TRD trims with the coil rear spring suspension.

Someone on here said it best: it's called the xtra cab because now you have to reach xtra far to reach the storage area.

mark up is built into every product sold on the free market. I’m not talking dealer mark up.

    Point understood.

I continue to be curious about specifics on the supply chain.
Toyota says that access cab sales "were static and not growing". So it made business sense (to them) to discontinue manufacturing access cabs in specific trim levels. (and yet--they bring out what I suspect is a low sales model "Pre-Runner"). My question is how many Tacomas were produced and sold in each trim level by year. That specific information is hard to find. Anyone have a spreadsheet?

They also said that 50% Access Cabs were “ordered” with the rear seat delete option. I’m sure you know that Toyota doesn’t do orders for regular customers. They sound like they are making up whatever to make their decision sound legit.

Yeah. I have not hung out or observed local Toyota dealership lot inventory, nor do I have any lot holding cost information, but I do know that when I purchased my 2021 Tacoma in Nov 2021, there were no "unallocated" new Tacomas on the lot in any trim level. None. My own purchase was a "pick from our unallocated list" and reserve your new Tacoma. To me, this is a great manufacturer supply model, optimizing efficiency when there are potential manufacturing and inventory limitations. Customers used to browsing and those wanting customization certainly disagree.

I personally liked the suicide doors because my dog was able to jump in the back area and it made it easier to vacuum and stuff. I have also used the jump seats on occasion.

Without it, might as well give me the regular cab to shorten the wheel base a bit more.

I'd buy a short wheelbase regular cab. My first two Tacomas were regular cabs and I loved them.

Like the other supply chain issues they have, they did not ship the access cabs to the dealers who could sell them. Their was no inventory shipping to the Midwest when I was looking or I would not have purchased another white one.

true, hardly anyone uses those with the intention of having passengers in their truck, lol.
