Did they drop the Access Cab for 2024? It appears the Extra Cab does not open like on the older models. I really like my Access Cab. Maybe if enough people complain they will bring it back.

Access cab is gone on the 24s as market demand dictated. They sell far less AC's than DC's and most people didn't really use the backseat of the access cab for passengers anyways. The new extended cab I see as somewhat of a middle ground from the discontinued single cab, and the little bit larger access cab. Now the new one is more cargo focused, whereas double cab is the passenger focused version. While I've owned multiple Access cab 2nd gens as well as Double Cab 2nd and 3rd gen's, to me it makes sense. The access cab is only used for groceries, gear, or our dogs and never passengers

I read somewhere Toyota had to ditch the doors on the access cab to meet crash standards.

I believe Toyota said something along the lines of “too expensive” to make a new access cab meet safety standards. I assume this was cost vs demand

I hear you, but the access door makes it easy to get in back. And there is room if you need to haul someone. The only reason they did not sell, is that they would not produce them, in 4wd. There are many customers who prefer this setup with 6 foot bed. Guess I won't be trading. Thanks for the info.

Nissan does still make the King Cab if you need clamshell doors. My Access Cab Sport is 4x4 with Premium Tech package, which is why I am planning to keep my Access Cab for a long time.

They produced them in 4wd, not sure where you got that from.

I have always had access cabs. I even put a person back there this year. They were barely 5'0" tall, though. Oh well. Damn.

There may be confusion because the 4th Gen 2-door XtraCab only TRD model is the PreRunner which is 2WD.

I am guessing the removal of the clamshell door was crash test standards too. Toyota has to look into the long term meaning that certain crash test standards may not exist today but they might in 5 years. We all know the lifecycle of the Tacoma so far is 8-10 years.

If Toyota wanted to really kill the access cab, they did it with this decision to delete the rear doors. I had a 2009 AC and it was great for cargo once the jump seats and stupid rear console were removed. Not having rear doors would make that space almost useless.

I guess I’m the only one who remembers extended cab trucks from the 80’s and 90’s that didn’t have an access door?

You can also get it in SR and SR5 4x4 too, but as you said the only TRD trim is the PreRunner.

I am happy with the Extra Cab model because it has full size bed and reminds of the old regular cab Tacomas that many preferred. I also like the SR because it’s basic. I don’t need anything fancy on a truck. To be honest, I would pay extra to have roll down windows again. The things I really miss are the simple 2.7 4 banger and stick shift. Not sure I trust the turbo yet, but hope it works out. If it gets good reports, I may go for one next year or in ‘26. I recommend waiting for awhile.

They sucked then too. Only we didn't know it since they didn't have doors.
