    Hello all,

I'm in the market for my first Tacoma. Have one on order actually. I've been surfing the forums for a little while and noticed that the Access cab seems to be popular among some people. Any particular reason for that? I guess my question is more specific to the 3rd gen even though I guess any gen works.

I imagine the Double Cab would much more popular for the extra room and having regular doors. And yes, I searched and found this but aside from having a family and "not needing the extra room", why would one choose the AC?

What he said^^^ I don't have a family at this point, just a dog. So it's basically only me and my girl in the truck. I do carry stuff from time to time (plywood or steel) and wanted the long bed for that but a Limo (DCLB) can be a pain offroad

Would be nice if a sheet of plywood laid flat between the wheel wells huh? My favorite part about my full size. :)

The AC is only more popular because they don't make a regular cab anymore.

Yup. I had my regular cab until I decided to put a baby in my wife haha. Went to a full size after that. Couldn't leave the Yota family though so I picked up a 3rd gen T4R for the trails.

Not sure if I agree with that, but to each his own. I think it's about aesthetics and proportion for many. Kind of like those that prefer the look of a 2 door coupe or hardtop over a sedan.

I guess I'm planning ahead with a DC then. Carry the extra space for girls now and a family down the road

Good plan. You'd regret the ACLB if you have more than a driver and a passenger.

I guess I just don't see why someone would prefer 2 full doors over 4. Aside from cost, which doesn't appear that much, I don't have to have to have to open my driver door to let a backseat passenger out. Just me I guess

If you have too much fun with the girls and that extra space that family may be around the corner instead of down the road.:D
Seriously though, if you plan on giving more than one person at a time a ride, they will thank you for it.

being able to lock up a decent amount of cargo in the rear of a 4dr is priceless. We camp with the bears so locking up all food related items in the truck is required. Except when my buddies get liquored up and leave coolers and bbqs right by your tent haha! Only one minor encountor so far, we were both scared shitless

Have you ever sat in the jump seat of an AC? No full size person fits back there for very long. That's why some of us love the AC....we don't have any friends. We used to have some, but we made them sit in the back seat of our access cab, lol.

I just had a four door Nissan Frontier before the new taco. In the five years I had it I used the backseat maybe three times and those times were because someone said " George has room, let's go in his truck"well those days are over because no one will be using my access cab. My kids are grown and it's just me and the wife. If we have to transport more people we'll just use her new RAV4. I bought this truck for my purposes and not for other people. My two cents

The four door long box is a boat. It's just huge. I need a 6 foot box so I can sleep in it. And the AC has the long box, some good storage, and the seats work for kids, and it's still a great 4x4 that doesn't get hung up and high centered on rocks and can turn through tight trails. Win win. :)
