THIS IS NOT NORMAL bumper sticker
I have the SR Access cab, 4x4 4 cylinder model. I have noticed almost immediately after buying the car, a rattling noise coming from the shoulder belt height adjuster area. The noise is present when listening to music with low tones. It is especially annoying because that belt adjuster is right by my ear.
Today morning I have noticed that when closing the door, one can hear a very noticeable
prolonged(2 to 3 seconds) rattling in the same spot(inside the cab). Moreover, the passenger door side emits the same exact noise. I am wondering if anybody has the same issue with their truck. I will definitely address this when going for the first maintenance service at the dealer...

I can't describe it, but my truck emits a slight hum, almost static sound when the radio is turned down or off. I have tinnitus so I can't swear it's the truck, but I'm pretty sure it is. I just turn the radio up and got louder tires to drown it out. I'd get a louder exhaust but it's a 4 banger.

I have an access cab as well and it makes the same noise you're describing. It kind of sounds like someone spinning a quarter on a table top.

My TRD offroad access cab, made last February, Texas plant doesn't have this issue. I don't know if the inside trim is the same.

if it's coming from the passenger side and you don't have a passenger it's likely the metal part of the seat belt bumping the post between the doors. Mine does it sometimes, mostly if its not straight

Its coming from drivers side ... sounds like the access cab side door glass rattling? I will have to get someone else to drive it while i ride in the back. I have confirmed that its not the seatbelt adjustment

Few days ago I bought a nicer set of take offs from a guy who had a 2016 Sr5 access cab. I told him about my noise issue and he assured me that his car does not have it. He opened the truck for me and we opened and closed his rear doors and both doors made the same noise. It for sure comes from the inside of the plastic trim. Sounds like a metal spring or thin long metal part vibrating.
I suspect that all the access cabs have it.

I have the same rattle .... Its the chrome seatbelt buckle bumping the interior pannel.

you wont hear it if the seatbelt is buckled.

Nothing fancy, yet. Weathertech mats front/back + their mud guards, some reflective striping and custom carpets on the storage bin lids underneath the jump seats.
If it's not the metal belt buckle part tapping against the interior plastic:

I recently pulled the interior door panels to install some replacement speakers and it's not too difficult if you want to have a look around inside.
Maybe some foam picture mounting tape or a dab of silicone RTV sealant in the right spot could quiet things down.

There's a screw inside the door closure cup, a plastic push-in the-center-to-release* fastener along the top and the seat belt anchor bolt at the bottom to undo. The anchor cover pried off easily enough and the bolt has some thread locking agent on it. It's a snug bolt! Once all those are removed, it's a matter of pulling on the lower edge of the panel and working your way around - prying the fasteners free as you go. Reinstalling was a bit frustrating trying to get all those back in their holes correctly. I had a few stay on the door metal and had to transfer 'em back to the trim panel. The belt retractor kept pulling the seat belt metal part inside the hole until I finally just pulled out the belt as far as it would go and stepped on the anchor end - saving it for last.

    * Here's a pic so you don't accidentally break it trying to get it out.
It's from my motorcycle after I learned the hard way.
Don't depress the pin in the middle too much upon removal or it can push all the way through and fall into the abyss forever. Just a tiny bit will suffice.

    Just went out and rinsed bird crap off my truck...again. {The cats are fired, btw.}
I opened and closed the doors and listened for the noise. The only thing I heard was a light "clunk" when the passenger side seat belt buckle
slapped against the plastic door panel. I never really paid attention before to area where it's most likely to make contact. It's a slightly raised area that I suppose could be tastefully padded with something. Not really an issue for me. So, I'll leave that up to the enterprising types on the list to conquer.
    :)

I hear the rattle when driving with my seat belt on ... every bump or rough road i hear the rattle sound. Could be inside access cab door panel but to my ear it sure sounds like the window on drivers side access door .. i will figure this out once i can get someone to drive the truck so i can ride in access cab and investigate

It's slight, but I hear it too. Maybe they should have spent less time with wind tunnel testing to figure out that those little fins on our side view mirrors is a good idea and more time with interior issues like this. Toyota certainly has been in the car making business for a very long time. You would think that things like this should be not be possible. Just like the bubbled clear film infront of the rear fenders. This isn't rocket science either. Just venting ha ha

Have not heard of the bubbled clear film yet and hope i don't experience that either. I was checking that out the other day and thinking to myself ... wonder if that will end up turning color over time, like yellowing. And i wondered how hard that would be to remove from the vehicle or if anyone has

An easy way to get rid of the sound is to put a piece of cardboard or something between the glass and that inner panel at the bottom of the window. Just thick enough to keep an inward force against the panel.

    Funny you mention rocket science...
NASA had to take a capsule out of the space museum to back engineer door seals.
The guys who knew their shit are long gone; probably the same at Toyota.

S, just a temp fix until you can pull the panel and find whatever attachment piece is at fault.
