    Hey Everyone,

I have a 2017 TRD OR and recently the "Accelerator and Brake Pedals Depressed Simultaneously" error light has be coming on. I totally lose all acceleration power when this happens and on tonight's 15 minute ride home it probably happened 5 times, mostly back to back. When I take my foot off the accelerator, power usually comes back.

No, I don't have my foot on the accelerator and brake pads at the same time. Ironically when I do press the accelerator and brake pads, the error light does not come on.

Has this happened to anyone before? Is this a known issue?

    Thanks,
    Tim

This is because of the Prius events a few years back, with unintended acceleration. A lot of people jumped on board and some apparently had hit the gas and the brake at the same time.

Do you need to know, or care?
No it's not normal unless you press both pedals at the same time, then yes it is normal and for a good reason. If it's happening randomly while driving with your foot only on the accelerator, you need to take it to the dealer and have them fix the problem.

This happened to me as well. I took it to the dealership and it was a quick fix, they said it was a computer malfunction.

Do you drive with one foot on the gas and one on the brake?

He said he’s not driving and hitting them both at the same time. So either his brake switch is sticking or there is another electrical issue with the ECU, BCM or another module. Take it to the dealer

He may say he’s not but people that drive with two feet do that all the time and don’t realize it.

Yes, but all we can do is go by someone’s word. Either way when they put the tech stream on it, that will be varified or not

WTF! Never knew something like this existed. So does this mean you can't do aussie burnouts? ;)

Yes, dealership fixed it (and charged me). They claimed it was from the leer cap I had installed. The electrical cable connected to the rear cap brake light was disconnected. They claimed this was shorting out the system.

That’s interesting. I wouldn’t have guessed that could cause the error message.

    Like Sammy Hagar said.
The good old 454 power braking days are gone. Most don't even know what that is these days.

Just had the same thing happen. 2017 w/ 15k miles. Dealership says that a bad brake light bulb shorted to ground and faked the truck into thinking I was braking and accelerating. None of this makes sense to me, but wanted to pass it on. If this happens, maybe check the tail and brake lights.
