    Hi there, I have a 1996 Tacoma LX 4WD with a 3.4L engine (5VZ FE).

When replacing my timing belt last year, my mechanic friend told me that he could not tighten the AC tensioner pulley because the bolt that goes through the pulley was significantly bent.

I'm now trying to find the bolt and related hardware that will allow me to re-attach the pulley to the bracket. Any tips on where I can find this? No luck at the dealership. Thanks in advance!

The bolt you refer to should be the same as your alternator bolt.
Use a 14mm wrench to loosen the bolt in the middle of the pulley, then use a 12mm wrench or socket to remove the bolt.
Get the same style of flange bolt.

    I hope this helps you.

Try going to a junkyard. A 4-runner with the same engine will probably be easier for you to find depending on your location. The parts should interchange.

Heres the toyota part number for the tensioner adjuster bolt, just had to order this. It was like $.79 from toyotapartadeal.com. if you get the pulley from toyota it comes with the new part that the adjuster threads into and that holds the pully to the bracket.

Just in case you need more info, here is a good discussion on the topic of the bracket.

Wow excellent advice and information here. I ended up buying a new hardware set and pulley from a dealership in TX, as the pulley was a bit noisy anyway. Thanks everyone!
