I picked up my 2017 OR from the dealership service center after the leaking ac evaporator was replaced. Before the repair was made, I informed the service consultant of the subject TSB for which it calls for replacing the evaporator part #88511-04020 with an evaporator subassembly with a part #88501-04070. ️ Now I'm looking at the repair and parts breakdown on the invoice and I noticed that the part number #88511-04020 is listed for the new evaporator core.

Am I screwed? What parts are in this subassembly with part #88501-04070?

Attached is the screenshot of the tsb. #CarTrouble #TSB #AutoRepair

Take everything I say with a grain of salt. I just went through this repair a few months ago. To my knowledge, my evap was not leaking but it was making the whistling noise described in the TSB you referenced. I've attached photos of the invoice I received showing the part number of the updated evap and all associated parts replaced at the time of the repair.

I personally would go back to the dealership and ask them to put the correct part in per the TSB. Good luck.

I am reached out to my service consultant but he was not working today. Will talk to him next week. Including the diagnose, this was an expensive repair.

Would anyone know how the evaporator under this new part # differ in design or fabrication than the original part? I'm thinking the design improvement for the tsb had to do with eliminate or reducing the whistle which could be the low pressure liquid refrigerant turning into a low pressure gas in the evaporator.

I'd like to hear how you make out on this. I just came upon this TSB as I have been searching for information regarding this "whooshing\whistling" noise coming from the vents while the AC is running. I just bought my '19 two months ago. I am hoping it is not going to be a massive repair cost as I have seen others write about.

I initially reported the noise back when my truck was a month old (bought it new in July 2020). I was told it couldn't be replicated so I let it go until I came across the TSB a while back. So I brought all my documentation to my dealer and they quoted me roughly $2,100 to fix it. I called Toyota Brand Engagement and told them I reported it when it was under warranty. Long story short, Toyota Corporate covered $1,500 and the dealer split the remaining cost with me so I was only out $266.

How much whistling was it making? Mine makes a 1-2 second whistling through the AC on acceleration sometimes. I bought it used from a Toyota dealership and noticed it on the test drive. The tech acknowledged it and said it was normal, even though I mentioned the evap TSB to them. It's hard to hear with the radio on, but noticeable with a quiet cab.

Mine would do it intermittently upon accelerating from a stop and usually lasted 1-3 seconds or so. It started getting more frequent this summer to the point that I'd hear it on the freeway every few seconds while keeping a constant speed of 65 mph or so. It also happened more in hot temperatures, which is basically everyday during the summer in Arizona lol. I drove with a lead technician and it made the noise right away. He said he hadn't heard the noise in person before but he was aware of the TSB and recommended the new evaporator right away.
