    Hey guys,
I was doing some maintenance on my 05 TRD V6 today. I rarely use the 115v AC outlet that is in the bed, so I thought I would put my multi-meter on it to make sure it still works. It works, but only registers 105 volts. Engine is running, interior AC switch lights are on (both of them...400w), but still only getting 105 volts. Is that normal for this truck? Any thoughts? Thanks.

Hey, if it's only 105v you get an extra 0.4a out of it. :notsure:

im no electrician, but i would think that to be fine to run stuff designed to run on houshold electricity. which varies anyways, and frustrates me at work, hey bro you have a 110v houshold adapter? no mines 120v and the box says 115v. . . . . . JUST PICK ONE!!!! SO MANY VOLTAGES!!! 110=115=120, 230=240, 270?, 460=480

sorry i would think it to be ok, plug something in and see if it smokes. . . .thats how i roll lol

Yeah but where can I get an adapter to run my 110v fan in my 220v outlet? Actually heard at a Home Depot after the customer got done describing the outlet and the HD monkey telling the customer it's a 220v outlet. Care to describe phases?

Hmmmm, never tested mine. Now I'm curious. I've never had an issue, if that's all mine puts out also. I have used it for my dremel, no issues, I also have a plug installed in my cab and use it to charge my phone all the time, and my son charges his DS with it, and also never had an issue. When I installed the plug, I used my dremel to test it, LOL, cause it was there, instead of digging out my tester. I'll have to check mine out now to see.

I'll try to get out there tomorrow, see what it reads, and get back to you.

Maybe it isn't pure sine-wave output. That could affect the measured voltage.

It isn't a pure sine wave. Even then you have by standard 10% plus or minus...

Power companies try to regulate the voltage as close as possible to spec, they have to constantly alter the volts up and down to get an average for the day. This is why when you look at a piece of equipments voltage rating it gives you a range that it will operate at. Sometimes with you meter you might see 110v, 112v, 115v, 120v, 124v, etc. All still within the electrical communities allowable voltages for a certain class of equipment. And 270v is matched with the 460-480 range.

In case anyone is interested, you can tell the power coming into a building by looking at the transformer configuration on the pole outside the building.

    1) Transformer on the pole = 208/230v 1 phase
    2) Transformers on the pole = 240v 3 phase
    3) transformers on the pole = 208 or 480v 3 phase depending on how they are tapped.

And yes, you can run a 110v fan on 220v, it won't run long, but it will be fast. :D

I checked my truck today with my Fluke 902 meter and with the truck idling I get 118.1 vac . It would fluctuate between 118.1 and 118.2 vac.

    I ran a 208/230v fan on 460v once. Wasn't faster...

Power inverter voltage drops when there is no load. In order to turn on or "activate" the inverter, you must have some load on it. Try plugging a 75watt light into it and pull out the plug a little and test the voltage with the light attached.

Correct ^^ AC motor speed is determined by frequency ( 60 Hz ) and motor windings.

Not to get off subject here but I have a power monitor in my home . You can see the voltage fluctuating . Sometimes it drops far below 100 volts and some times it goes as high as 140 . Not worried about the undervoltage ,but an overvoltage can do some nasty damage to exspensive electronics and is why I have such a critter placed on my incoming hydro line .
Hydro always tells you they send clean voltage to your home . Do not beleive them .
