I am rebuilding my '09 AC system. Compressor didn't come with any instructions on volumes and I don't see a sticker under my hood or anywhere on the condenser area that has these volumes either. I have read conflicting information in my search. Some places say there is a total of 8 ounces in the system, and other sources say very specifically that it is 5.61 ounces. Some compressors seem to ship with 5.6 ounces already in them.
Toyota Corporate and my local dealers have both been useless in answering this (which I don't understand, because when they rebuild someone's AC they must know how much oil to put back in the system).
Does anyone have a definitive answer to this question?
    Thanks,
    Josh

Wow thanks Lester, you the man. I haven't seen this link before, what a great resource. After looking through that, it's pretty clear that if installing all new components, one should add 5.61oz oil to compressor and 1.4oz each to both condenser and evaporator.
    Thanks again.

Are you buying a new compressor? Some usually come with the oil; you have to drain it and measure it, then add the remainder to the condenser and evap coil.

Yeah I bought one already. Haven't gotten around to removing the old compressor or breaking open the new one yet. That's the first project after the holiday weekend. Thanks guys.

Joedirt is right, drain the oil from the compressor see how much is there and adjust.

Ok after straining my eyes to read drivesector's image (thanks btw), I am once again confused. That chart says TOTAL system capacity is 5.61oz oil. The other link said 1.4oz in each for condenser and evaporator. So that's 2.8oz which is half of 5.61. So would I only put 2.8oz in the compressor (as opposed to 5.61 in compressor) and then 1.4 each in evap and condenser? I still don't see this mysterious refrigerant tag in my engine bay. Can anyone tell me where that is? I'm just trying to figure out if my total oil charge should be 5.6 or closer to 8ish.
    Thanks

5.6. 8 would be way too much.
Drain the new compressor and measure the oil. I would do 1 and 1 in the condenser and evap coil and the rest in the compressor.

Ok thanks Mr. dirt, I'll go with 5.6 total. But I will drain and measure the new compressor oil as well to compare. I appreciate the help.

Spin the compressor by hand a couple of times after everything is installed but before you start the system.
