Hello I’ve been having issues with my trucks AC and I’ve tested everything. I’ve used known working fuses to make sure there not blown. I’ve forced the low pressure switch to make clutch on compressor go to make sure the switch isn’t bad. I’ve got the truck leak tested for refrigerant and even replaced the condenser. But I cannot find out why my clutch engages and then all of a sudden stops. I’ll press the ac button the clutch will engage for a couple seconds then cut off. The air will blow cold for that time period but then after that I gotta turn it on and off again to get it to engage but it still stops abruptly. Anyone got any ideas.

Does the A/C light flash when this happens?

Yes as soon as the clutch disengages the light starts to blink.

When it blows cold do the vents 'smoke' (actually fog) just before it shuts off?

Actually that is a sign of evap freeze up and a thermistor shuts off the compressor.

    Caused by a failed thermistor

Was condenser replaced because it was leaking?

Yeah there was a leak so it was evacuated, replaced and recharged.

The flashing A/C light is when the A/C amplifier does not detect a speed signal from the compressor lock sensor after commanding the MG CLT relay on.

    Possible causes are:
Open or shorted wire(s) in the lock sensor circuit
    Bad lock sensor
    Internal problem in the compressor
Open or shorted wire(s) to the MG CLT relay
Open in the wire from the MG CLT relay to the compressor
    Failed compressor clutch
    Belt slipping
    Failed A/C amplifier

Since we know the compressor turns on we can rule out the clutch circuit so we're down to an internal compressor problem, belt or compressor clutch slipping, Lock Sensor wiring, a failed Lock Sensor, or failed A/C Amplifier.

I'd check wiring integrity between the Lock Sensor and A/C Amplifier and also test the Lock Sensor.

Thank you for the in-depth explanation and example I’m gonna take a look at it after work today so see how’s its looking. Looking up the part I saw a lot of others dealing with the same issue of there compressor sensor going bad. Last thing I can mention is when the clutch stops spinning after the couple of seconds it run it almost pulls the car forward/down but I’m assuming it’s cause the belt is spinning with the clutch and once it abruptly stops the pulls on the belt. Thought id mention that in case it raises an ideas.
