    Hello,

Anyone have input on AC condenser replacement? I’m planning on doing it myself. Toyota lists this part for $393. But, I see a wide range of prices for aftermarket condensers, looks like middle of the road is about $165. Is the OEM worth the extra money? Likely to last longer? Anyone done this on a 3rd Gen?

    Thanks!

Why are you replacing the condenser? I think there is a TSB out there for people living in hot climates where the Toyota will install a condenser fan to help the AC in stop and go traffic.

Curious why a condenser needs replacing on a 3rd gen?

    Damaged/leaking?

Do you not find that the OEM didn't last very long?

Question for anyone that replaced their AC condenser with a non OEM? I had my OEM recently damaged from a rock and insurance is covering it but they only approved the cost of a replacement (Spectra Premium 7-30020) versus OEM. It'd cost me an additional $200 (on top of a $300 deductible) to go OEM, this includes 2 years of parts and labour warranty. I know it's typically recommended to go OEM but I'm not sure if it's worth it here... Thanks in advance!

Having several 4Runners and tacomas in the family here’s the rule I’ve settled on after a few replacements….AC parts, steering rack, water pump use OEM. Everything else (brakes, alternator, etc) feel free to use a quality aftermarket replacement.

Aftermarket condensers may not having the same amount of cooling fins and rows as OE units. We are back to you get what you pay for theory. They will fit and 'work', but may not have the same capacity to remove heat. For such an important part, I would buy OEM. This dude on YT is pretty amazing with A/C troubleshooting, etc. and has found many examples of sub-par aftermarket condensers. Check it out before you buy.
