Took a trip up in the mountains this last weekend and the beginning of the trip is winding asphalt road with speed that varies from 35mph to 60mph curves. There was one sharp 35mph turn that I may have taken a little to quick on the way up that made it feel like the ABS may have activated and started to apply breaking to what felt like the driver front tire on a left hand turn. Once I exited the turn it went away. I didn't notice any dash lights since my eyes were on the road. Same thing happen later in the day on the way down but this time it was a right hand turn, not the same spot in the road. Not sure if it matters but it's a 2014 PreRunner with 5100's / 885 coils / SPC UCA in the front and HD Dakar in the back.

Just curious if anyone else has experienced this.

Probably just your traction control kicking in. Feels similar to ABS.

It's all the same system I believe.

possibly your ABS line being pinched??? my 15 had done the same thing and it was the abs line being pinched and eventually broke the line.

If you lifted the weight off one wheel, and it lost friction with the road surface, yes ABS would modulate your brakes as it sensed that wheel stop rotating or about to.

That's kind of what I was thinking but I've never experienced it before. Truck is lifted, going into a corner a little too hot, inside front tire lifting but not loosing contact. ABS trying to do it's job.

I'll have to take a look at that tonight. Was going to jack up the front and and move the front wheels to feel if the wheel bearings are going bad.

VSC is activating. It's common on lifted trucks with larger than stock size tires. You can search the 2nd Gen forum for exhaustive reading and a few options for making it not happen.

Is the lift a new addition? That's when it's first noticed and usually happens on freeway on or off ramps - where turning/g-force and higher speeds, with larger diameter tires than stock can trigger a VSC reaction.

    Best of luck

Time to recalibrate the Traction Control Computer. There is a thread on recalibrating VCS - all thats needed is a level ground in all directions and a bare-wire to jump across the pins in the OBDII port.

This happens nearly everyday at a curved off-ramp that I always take too fast. Feel the brake pedal pulsing... I now consider it a daily test of the system. No problems with the truck.

Powered by one tailgate mounted CFM56–7 engine. The engine is a dual–rotor, axial–flow turbofan engine capable of producing 27,000lbs of thrust. Why yes, my tailgate is slightly bowed in.

My truck was doing this when my front left wheel bearing started going bad. Once the bearing was replaced it stopped.... Can only assume they were related....

Edit, only did it in a right turn.

I had this same thing happen a couple of weeks ago in a similar circumstance. I think it's a normal reaction of the VSC system. I'm pretty sure my inner rear tire lost traction.
    I considered it normal.

Thanks for the replies. Makes me feel better knowing that it's happened to others under the same circumstances.
Checked the ABS lines and the front wheels don't have any play so I don't think the wheel bearings are going.

Thanks again for the piece of mind.

Losing traction in wet/icy conditions or on dry pavement (less common) is where the VSC is intended to take over.

Using feedback from the Yaw-rate Sensor, the VSC computer controlling ABS pump applies braking to individual wheel(s) help correct a slide or fishtail of the vehicle. There are plenty of YouTube vids that demo how this works.

What the OP is experiencing is not what the system should do and is a result of the mods. Anyone with this issue should re-calibrate their VSC computer

Thanks for the info. Just read thru a lot of this post and will be doing this tonight.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ibrate-your-vsc-computer-the-easy-way.467485/

Combination of the lift and the caster being pushed forward with the SPC UCA may be the cause. Funny thing is when I was reading threads regarding suspension and lifts I never ran across anyone mentioning a re-calibration of the VSC computer or I would have done this earlier.

    Thanks again.. Love TacomaWorld

been there done that... try to replicate the same thing maybe going around a circle see if it kicks in... my guess is traction control, mine has been doing that in similar situations you've described after a lift/tires. Pretty damn annoying and yes I've completed the VSC reset even at the alignment rack.

wonder if crossing the wires like some of the posts suggest does the same thing as re-calibration at the alignment shop. Shop advised they've done it but my issue still comes up on higher speed or sharper turns. Not a pleasant experience lol

I recalibrated the VSC computer but I'm not normally in the situation so only time will tell if it worked for me.
