Most of the DIY's on TW know this, when I first started doing my own lube this tip would have saved me much headache. After greasing a zerk I would try to pull the nozzle straight off and at times needed to use pliers to get it off. I just did my zerks yesterday and it was so much easier when you tilt the grease pump nozzle 45 degrees to remove it. I used to dread doing mine but using that technique, as well as using this LocknLube greasing fitting when doing the hidden 4x4 zerks. Here: https://locknlube.com/

Have these at work on my dewalt 20v grease guns. They work pretty well.

I agree the two zerks up front on the 4x4 leave very little room and that LocknLube adapter is what the zerk-lube doctor ordered... so much more pleasant to do.

I've put probably 200-300 tubes of grease through each gun (4 guns in rotation) this past year. They're not leaking unless the zerk is scratched or broken!

    8/10 would recommend.

10/10 would be coming up with a way to not need grease...

    And purchased.

Those front zerks are even harder to access once you add all the skid plates :cookiemonster:

This has pissed me off since day 1 of owning the truck and realizing I can grease dat shaft. So hard to get the gun to seat correctly and put the grease in.

That was my thoughts before using the LocknLube, included with it is a kit to rebuild the adapter if needed. I was always in fear of snapping off a zerk too.

I got the kind of fitting that you twist lock onto the zerk. Then twist the other way to release. It works well enough, if I didn't own it already, I'd get the recommended one in this thread. looks much better actually.

grease fitting- (sometimes called a nipple) but usually referred to as a 'zerk'.

edit: evidently the term 'zerk' may come from the inventors' name; I had written that 'zerk' was short for something

The lock n lube works great! On our 2012 it worked for all the zerks. Our 2015 proved to be a little more difficult. I used their needle adapter on the front seems and it was easy peasy.....

How often do you grease the zerks? I have a 2013 with 30.000 miles. Is it mandatory? Ive never heard of anyone doing this faithfully lol

I do mine when I change the oil, which ends up being about once-a-year.

FWIW, I consider it as "mandatory" as changing the oil.
