I had to put down 50% deposit and 50% upon delivery. 15+ weeks is right.

I agree it’s money well spent. 3,500 dollars is a lot of money no matter how you look at it though.
I used to have the softtopper and upgraded for the same reasons you listed and plus it wouldn’t work with my decked system.

Well remember, the dealer gave me a nice break because of the long lead time past the quoted time and the bizarre excuses I was getting. They “felt bad” that it took so long so I ended up getting it for 500 off originally quoted. In the end, no complaints here.

Hey bud - I’m going to suggest you go the way of the used market. $3k for a new topper is about right, but the wait time blows ass. Just find someone looking to sell their truck with one on and buy it off them.

$600 and 2 weeks of my time landed me with a Leer with nearly all of the options you mentioned. Patience always pays off

just talked to another guy says Leer is 2 months and ARE is 6 months. the leer xr was on top of my list until i saw a guy with the overland on the same color and bed size as mine and i fell in love. so ill keep looking ill even drive to a close state lol

cause re painting it down the road if its not a color match shouldnt be that much of a headache

I ordered an ARE MX and delivery is supposed to be end up sept which will be coming up on 6 months, so the wait time is real with ARE.

But I got mine optioned out with a buncha stuff and paint matched to a custom color so finding a used one was not going to be likely

Instead of creating a new thread, I figured I would just revive this one…Since the OP asked the same question I have now.

Anyone recently take delivery of a new A.R.E. shell? If so, what was the time between ordering the shell and taking delivery?

I ordered my ARE CX shell back in February. They told me estimated delivery would be on May 21st (2 months ago).

Now they say they can’t tell me when it will ship and won’t even give me a general estimate. Like, literally won’t say whether it will be weeks or months. I’m beyond angry that their customer service is this poor for a product that is so expensive.

Just trying to get an idea if canceling my order would be a good choice or if I may actually get the cap soon. The dealer I’m going through agreed that ARE is being ridiculous and has given me the option of canceling my order for a full refund.

I ordered an ARE CX April 1st and took delivery last week on July 21st, so about 15-16 weeks.

This is the first ARE I have purchased, and I owned 3 Leer's. ARE did a great job with the back door and latching mechanism on this cap, but the rest I feel is poor workmanship. If you can, I would suggest cancelling your order and get a Leer, even if it means a long wait.

Edit: FWIW, it has not affected gas mileage one way or the other. The truck seems to be quieter and ride/drive nicer with the cap on.

This is exactly the info that I was looking for, thanks so much.

It sounds like my wait time has been much longer than the average. That poor quality is especially concerning. You’d think they would provide a high quality product for that price and such a long wait.

Thanks again for the write up!

I paid just over $3K for a similarly spec’d ARE CX. I'm super happy with the purchase, but I'm upgrading to a GFC at the end of August.

I ordered mine back in 2016. Very happy with build quality.

My only complaints I have, I knew before purchasing. I wish there was an option to have remote lock on the back window.

I also wanted a cap with windoors and all the other goodies but could not justify the cost of a new one . So, I went the FB Marketplace/CL route (with a 500 mile search radius) and found one that does just about all I need it to for $550 plus gas/tolls/pain.

These come up all the time if you are patient and not locked into a particular style (or color match).
