I just got done at the local Toyota dealership and they want $700+ to fix my A/C Amplifier. Briefly looking online I see I can find similar parts and do the labor my self for much cheaper...

Has anyone ever purchased an AC Amplifier for a 2014 Tacoma? Where did you purchase the actual part from and how much did it run you?

Also has anyone replaced their A/C Amplifier on their own? Any tips or tricks I should be aware of?

Any help would be awesome, thank you in advance!

It is essentially the computer for the A/C. Controls the damper servo motors, A/C clutch, and takes the A/C on and recirc switch inputs, along with A/C compressor speed, thermistor, and A/C pressure switches and determines when to engage the A/C compressor.

This is the schematic and explanation of the AC System. See pages 3 and 4 for what goes to the AC Amplifier.

    Air Conditioning

The A/C amplifier receives various signals, I.E., the engine RPM from the engine control module and coolant temperature from the engine control module, etc. When the engine is started and the A/C SW (A/C control assembly) is on, a signal is input to the A/C amplifier. As a result, current flows from IG1 NO.2 fuse to TERMINAL 2 of the MG CLT relay to TERMINAL 1 to TERMINAL MGC of the A/C amplifier to GROUND, turning the MG CLT relay on, so that the magnetic clutch is on and the A/C compressor operates.

If the integration control and panel detects the following conditions, it stops the air conditioning:
∗ Evaporator outlet air temperature is too low.
∗ There is a marked difference between the compressor speed and the engine speed.
∗ The refrigerant pressure is abnormally high or abnormally low.
∗ The engine speed is too low.
    ∗Rapid acceleration occurs

im sure it isn’t anything too fancy. Many a small chip for processing, servo loops for the dampers, and a few transistors.

Just for fun I checked a couple of the online OEM dealer discounters and see the amp is typically $95ish. IIRC the amplifier can also be replaced without removing the dash. Access is to remove the glove box and it is high up inside with a single, maybe two, 10mm bolts holding its bracket.
