    Hello all,

I'm in the process of replacing and repairing a cracked/leaking driver's side valve cover. Noticed a lot of oil in the intake and plenum during removal, and decided to run a compression test.

Got numbers between 205-215 on all 6 cylinders, and thought that seemed really high for 197,000 miles. Pulled all EFI fuses before testing, and did it twice to be sure. Any thoughts on this?

Tough to say for sure why the high numbers BUT being that they are all consistent with each other that is a good thing. Could be the gauge itself slightly over calibrated but even then your measured values are all close and similar so that's a good sign. How did the spark plugs look when you pulled them?

Plugs are ~5k miles old, seemed a little dark (burnt oil?) but overall good shape.

Everything runs normal? No check engine light on? I prolly wouldn't sweat it. If still worried double check with a different tester

When checking the compression on my 2000 4runner with the 5VZ-FE engine, my compression numbers were in the 180 to 210 range. I decided to recheck the 2 lowest cylinders (Cyl #5 - 190, Cyl #2 - 180) because the filming process takes a while and allowed my engine to cool down and the factory service manual said the engine should be warm for this test. After getting the engine to operating temperature, I pulled the plugs on the low cylinders and rechecked the compression. I was happy to see that they came up to the 210 equaling the other 4 cylinders.

The FSM says ideally the number you should see is 178 psi or more for each cylinder. Minimum cylinder pressure is 127psi. And, the difference between cylinders should be 14psi or less. So, OP you're golden. Your numbers are excellent!

Mine were around 150-165psi but after an oil flush they went up to 190-210 or so. So I would say those numbers are good imo. I think I had partially clogged rings.
