Does anybody know any good lights to replace the sealed glass unit ones? They're on my 97 4x4 tacoma.

Hella Vision Plus H4 and upgrade the wire harness while you're at it.

Lets see if @crashnburn80 can chime in. Maybe his ultimate headlight upgrade is applicable here.

The hella and vision x options are good. Retrofits are the best.

Yes. The Hella 200mm E-code H4s are an outstanding improvement over stock and the best drop in replacement reflector IMO.

E-code lights have a superior beam pattern with sharper cut-offs to DOT lights and put significantly more light on the road. I've done this on my 89 and 94 pickup that ran sealed beams. The Hellas are a little more expensive but had perfect fit and finish. I've tried lesser brands first and they were loose in the headlight bucket and required shimming. Then I got a rock through the lens and saw how thin the glass was. Went with Hella afterward and was way better quality.

Here is a link for the Hellas, which are a complete plug and play replacement.

    Hella 200mm E-code H4 conversion:
    http://www.rallylights.com/h6054-hella-200mm-rectangular-e-code-hi-lo-conversion-headlamp-kit.html

Optionally you can add the 85/80w Osram bulbs used in the ultimate headlight upgrade to the purchase. Running the 85w/80 bulbs will vastly improve output even over the E-codes, but do require the the standalone harness from the linked headlight upgrade. The difference will be literally night and day, more-so with the E-codes than the pictures with DOTs in the thread.

Running just the Hella E-code H4 conversion with standard wattage bulbs will still see a significant improvement over stock.

That was in a under ground parking lot not totally level, 3 car lengths back on high beam. You can see the car to the left, the light pattern would cover the car. Not the sky above the car.
The Hella H4 beam is very direct with specific light cut offs,
If you want an excellent performance package this is the way to go hands down.
If your looking for a retro look or a different look there are other choices but not
in performance for a factory lens setup, the LED are great but from reviews are not
as good as the HID but are close.

While E-codes do have better cut offs than DOT, this was specifically writen for LEDs, and it is even far worse for HIDs.

Read this to understand why you cannot just swap the light source in a halogen reflector.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/why-leds-should-not-be-run-in-halogen-reflectors.454371/

Halogen bulbs in a halogen reflector will deliver superior results unless you are going full projector retrofit for your HIDs.

Interesting but nevertheless the HID that I put in the replace the halogen 65 watt bulbs are twice as powerful and work much better on my truck. That's first-hand experience after replacing the 65 watt halogen with the 55 watt HID bulbs.

Of course they are brighter. Not just for you but for everyone else around your truck. Your the type of guy we all complain about on forums cause we are blinded on the road by glaring headlights "upgraded" with HIDs/LED's in halogen housings.

Nope, the Hella H4 LAMPS do the opposite of that they lay down a controlled light spread with cut offs that dont go into the oncoming driver's eyes
