    Hi all,

Just did something that may have been stupid. Used some 91% alcohol on a microfiber cloth and Q tip to prep my badges for an overlay kit on my 2019. Realized after that I probably should have diluted before using for such a purpose.

Is there any chance I damaged the paint or clear coat? I was mostly just cleaning the badge, but some for sure got on the paint around the badge.

Everything looks fine at this point.

I may be wrong, but I believe detailers use alcohol to strip/prep the vehicles paint before applying some sealants or ceramic coatings to a vehichles paint so I think you'll be fine, just might want to wax the affected area when you're done doing the badges

Should be fine because it evaporates so fast. As mentioned above it probably just removed any wax or contaminates from the paint in that area.

Paint and clear coat are fine. Any wax was removed.

The issue with using something "hot" like alcohol at that percentage or other solvent is that it can soften the clear coat. So prolonged exposure or excessive wiping would be where you get in trouble.

That's why you always start with something less aggressive first like 25% alcohol. Or something like 3M adhesive remover which should be available at auto parts stores.

I rely doubt it was 91% denatured alcohol.

Almost anything you get off the shelf these days is so diluted, it a wonder it works at all.

    Okay sounds good.

haha yeah it says 91% on the bottle and is intended for medical use, who knows though.

I wouldn't say i overly rubbed it. I used the q tip in some small areas and may have rubbed an individual area for up to like 10 seconds, but I wouldn't say I went too had on anything.

I have never waxed the truck so I guess there is nothing to take off.
