80's-Tastic 3rd Gens?

Have any of you seen any 80'-tastic 3rd gen Tacomas? I'm looking for examples that really channel that 80's look, maybe in color, striping (those awesome bracketed gradient stickers), mods, etc.

Attached are pics of the aesthetics I'm talking about. I know a lot are 1st gen 4Runners, but those generally have the aesthetic I'm looking for.

I want to see something similar to that Back to the Future 2016 Tacoma, where they channeled the aesthetic of the old 80's Toyota Pickup into the modern 3rd gen Tacoma.

I’m sure someone would make a killing selling retro vinyl stickers like those for Tacoma’s.

this look is pure joy for me. now i have the all white 3rd gen truck and i just can't do it on the new truck. i think it would spoil the natural beauty of the original. so I'll keep the pic and admire it. and still watching this thread for more awesomeness.

 

Totally gnarly dudes....my 85 SR5 I had in high school. No pictures of my mullet.

1st year with EFI 22re motor & last year with solid front axel (in the USA). I sold it in 94 when my son was born, I’d buy it back in a second if I found it.

 

I want all the above! They are all awesome trucks!!

 

There is a company doing this exact same concept on new Silverado's. Looks nice

Here's my '87 from a few yrs back.

 

I like that...a lot! I love my all white and black, but seeing these older trucks just brings back so many good memories.

 

I like that color scheme too.

 

I had the same truck in the tan color.Little did we know.Had molding down the side like yours also.

 

I'm actually in the process of working on getting something like this done. I've finished the general layout and now I'm just working on stuff like the sizing / alignment / spacing. Unfortunately I did not have time to do a full scale mockup this weekend to take measurements. Once I have that I will be creating the files and taking it to a graphics place that I've already gotten quoted out with.

Took me a lot of agonizing and back and forth and it's got more of an 80's and 90's vibe to it.

Pardon the hasty ass mockup, this was a run trying to work on the real life proportions and sizing, using an image editor with everything scaled up to 1:1 size:

The stripes are going to be Blazing Blue Pearl or a close approximation and the TEQ/トヨタ is going to be metallic silver where the bedside stickers normally go, and there was no good way to represent that hood sticker.

It's tougher than you might think designing something "retro" for a modern Tacoma...

Spoiler: A design that kind of falls flat on its face

Take for instance the Castrol livery that was so popular:

It just looks... sort of strange on a Tacoma, right? It's because the cars that had the Castrol livery (Celica, Supra) were all bulging swoopy lines that worked well with such a pattern. Put it on an angular truck with beveled edges and it just starts to look a bit silly.

 

Who makes this decal?

 

Dealership commissioned a vinyl shop to do it.
