Looking to purchase a surfboard which length is 8-9 feet long. Will this be okay on a camper shell with rack? Please post pictures showing this type of setup. Need to see if the long board is safe to drive with. Surfboard can't go anywhere else but on the roof rack. I don't have any rack system in the cab area, so gonna do with what I have on top of the camper shell.

Absolutely. I have a dub cab short bed and I throw my 8"6' up on the racks all the time. I'll dig up some pictures for ya...

Thanks for the help guys. Needed to double check before I got an 8'fter. Now, off to getting a new/used surfboard.

I have a 12' yak and a 16' canoe that go up there

    You will be fine

Not sure how it works with boards, but with kayaks I usually throw some straps around the yaks and to the rack on the roof, then a fore and aft strap to the truck. Those things never move

Sure. People routinely haul kayaks up there, and many kayaks are 16 foot plus. You'll be just fine.

Also, even though I do load my yaks on the roof for long trips, if it's just me I will hang the 12' out the back of my short bed with a bed extender as well

    Very safe and secure.

You will be able to haul a 9' without any trouble either on top or out the back

Just be careful when you strap the board down. I've seen people crush their board because the ratchet was up against the glass and they put too much pressure on it. I always put my boards in a bag before they go on the rack. Well, I don't have a rack so the 9'6" just lays on top of whatevers in the bed. :D

this^^^ I don't have a board bag for my 11' SUP...I have huge pressure dings (in the forms of my tie down straps along the bottom of the board because I sinched it down way too tight.

So it's best to invest in a carrying bag for the board so I won't mess it up while strapping it down or should I just get one for overall protection either way?

If it can haul this, it can haul a surfboard.

How heavy is that and how far you travel with it? Oh yeah and what is it?

I'd get one for transportation. It takes what would have been a small ding and turns it into nothing.

Makes sense. My drive to the beach is kinda far, so it might come in handy. Better get on Craigslist and search for one.

Wrap a couple towels or blanket around it just to get it home.

You need it tied tight enough not to fall or fly off, but it isn't a bison struggling to break free.
