I am considering getting a 1950# 7x14 v nosed enclosed trailer. Any input on the towing capability of my 3rd gen taco would be appreciated.

I already have airbags and trailer brakes installed

I know you are asking about a 3rd Gen, but I pulled a 6’x12’ enclosed tandem axle trailer (approximately 5500 lbs) from Tucson, AZ to Fairbanks, AK in 2018.

    I have a 6 speed MT and am re-geared with 4.56 axles.

while the truck did pull it okay, it was a workout for the truck.

I honestly don’t know how an AT would do, or what axle ratio you have, but I would have to say that would be the very limit if you could do it. I have no doubt it would eventually lead to engine or power train issues.

From Great Falls, MT to the border at Sweetgrass I fought a very stiff headwind the entire way...I got 8 mpg that tank.

I have a brake controller and a weight distribution hitch, so I never had any issues with stopping or sway, but I certainly wasn’t going to beat anyone off the line.

    I hope this helps.

I’ve got one I’ve towed pretty extensively (5000+ miles). Just get the weight distribution right and it’ll be fine. I average about 12 mpg with my truck (MT). I also pulled this trailer with a 16 AT and averaged about 10. I’d definitely get 4.88s if I still had the auto.

I always carry 10 gallons of spare fuel when towing.. just in case.

    Should tow great.

Air bags are awesome, but not a replacement for a weight distributing hitch.

Which bags did you use? Happy with them?
