80W-90 GL4 manual trans oil in mine for around the last 35K. It's only been better than it was before. LF is for fuel economy, it's not for improved anything in relation to the operation of the case. People think the strong additive pack makes it superior, well that's because the additives need to be there to make the 75W base provide the protection the transfer case needs. Factor in the price and I just don't see a reason to go that route personally.

The Blauparts link above is to the Ravenol kit that comes with sufficient fluid for both diffs (75w-85) and the transfer case (75w). I used this kit for a fluid change about 1000 miles ago. The Ravenol bottles all have an internal straw that pulls out and allows you to use the entire bottle without a fluid pump.

Well the more I read the more confused I get. I'm getting close to changing mine too, TRD OR. Ravenol seems to have the correct weights for everything, but I've never heard of them, and can't seem to find a lot of info. I was originally going to go with 75w-90 Valvoline in the bags for everything. I saw someone on YouTube using that, and it's easy to find. Then I see the manual calls for 75w-85, which seems a little harder to find. Redline MT-LV 70/75 seems to be another option for the T-case.

Ravenol is a fine brand. They’re more German oriented. I never heard of them either until I got my Tacoma, but they’re good.

The diffs call for 75W-85, but that is not a common viscosity nor is it required. You can buy Toyota or redline stuff for that, or you can go with 75W-90, 80W-90, 75W-110, 75W-140, 85W-140. Diffs are really not critical.

Transfer case calls for the 75W stuff as you have found. You can buy the expensive Toyota can, Ravenol, or Redline MTLV. Or you can do what many including the dealers do and just put in a 75W-90 or 80W-90 GL4 or GL5.

Napa carries Royal Purple Syncromax line front to back 85w90 for all but the tcase which is another. I've yet to change the tcase but use RP for the whole truck. 98k MI so far.

Same here, also, you can save some money (~$30 after subtrating the membership fee) via the preferred customer program for Amsoil if you change all the fluids for the tacoma itself, and the savings only increase from there if you have other vehicles.

Granted powertrain components, excluding the engine, are more so every other year unless you do a lot of driving and/or stick to the severe duty maintenance schedule. Not like you can't cancel the membership and just get it again when it's time to do all the fluids again.

My local dealer's price is $160 CDN/litre before tax for the 75W.

Y'all think it matters if my front diff fluid is 75W85 and my rear diff is 75W90? I changed the front diff myself using the Redline. Paid a dealership cpl months back to do the rear diff, and I'm sure they used the 75W90.

The diffs don’t talk. It’s fine.
